Flavor source manufacturing method

A method of manufacturing a flavor source includes: a step A of adding a basic substance to a tobacco raw material; a step B of heating the tobacco raw material added with the basic substance and releasing an inhaling flavor component into a vapor phase from the tobacco raw material; a step C of collecting the inhaling flavor component released into the vapor phase in the step B; a step D of washing a tobacco residue being the tobacco raw material obtained after the inhaling flavor component is released in the step B, with a washing solvent; a step E of pulverizing or cutting the tobacco residue obtained after being washed in the step D; and a step F of adding the inhaling flavor component collected in the step C to the tobacco residue obtained after pulverized or cut in the step E.

HIGH VISCOSITY NICOTINE FORMULATION

A nicotine formulation for an aerosol-generating system is provided, the nicotine formulation including: one or more water-miscible polyhydric alcohols, the nicotine formulation having a water-miscible polyhydric alcohol content of greater than or equal to about 40 percent by weight, the nicotine formulation being solid at 25° C. or having a viscosity at 25° C. of greater than or equal to about 100 Pa.Math.s, the one or more water-miscible polyhydric alcohols including glycerine and propylene glycol, and a ratio of the weight percent glycerine content to the weight percent propylene glycol content of the nicotine formulation is greater than or equal to about 1.5. An aerosol-generating article and an aerosol-generating system are also provided.

Methods for treating tobacco and tobacco-derived materials to reduce nitrosamines

A method for reducing the content of nitrosamines in a tobacco material is provided herein, the method involving the steps of contacting a tobacco material with a treatment solution so as to form a treatment composition containing, in addition to the tobacco material, an acid, a complexing agent, a solvent, and, optionally, a salt, at a pH of about 5.5 or less, to obtain a tobacco material having a tobacco-specific nitrosamine content that is lower than the initial tobacco-specific nitrosamine content. The method can optionally include further processing of the tobacco material. Smoking articles and other tobacco products incorporating such treated tobacco materials are also provided.

Capsule-containing pouched product for oral use

A pouched product adapted for release of a releasable component therefrom is provided herein. The pouched product can include a water-permeable fabric pouch formed so as to define a cavity therein, and a composition contained within the cavity of the water-permeable fabric pouch, the composition including one or more releasable components that are released from the composition under mouth conditions and that are capable of movement through the water-permeable fabric pouch. The composition includes nicotine and at least one particulate non-tobacco material. The pouched product also includes at least one capsule contained within the cavity of the water-permeable fabric pouch, the capsule having a capsule wall surrounding an inner payload comprising at least one botanical.

METHOD FOR WHITENING TOBACCO

A method of preparing a whitened tobacco material is provided, including: (i) extracting a tobacco material with a first extraction solution to provide a tobacco solids material and a tobacco extract; (ii) cooking the tobacco solids material in an alkaline cooking liquid comprising sodium sulfide and having a pH of greater than 11 to form a tobacco pulp; (iii) treating the tobacco pulp with an acid to lower the pH of the tobacco pulp and provide a neutralized tobacco pulp; (iv) extracting the neutralized tobacco pulp with a second extraction solution comprising at least one chelating agent to provide an extracted tobacco pulp; and (v) bleaching the extracted tobacco pulp with a bleaching solution to provide a whitened tobacco material.

PROCESSING PLANT-BASED MATERIAL FOR USE IN SMOKING PRODUCTS
