Curl straightening device and image forming apparatus having the same
The curl straightening device includes supporting rollers, an endless belt, a curl straightening roller, and a contact member. The supporting rollers are disposed rotatably about a shaft extending in a direction orthogonal to a conveying direction of the sheet. The endless belt is stretched across the supporting rollers, and circulates in the conveying direction. The curl straightening roller makes contact with an outer peripheral surface of the endless belt between the supporting rollers so as to form a nip portion, and straightens curl of the sheet which passes through the nip portion. The nip portion is shaped so that the endless belt curves along a peripheral surface of the curl straightening roller. The contact member is disposed to oppose a center portion of the curl straightening roller in an axial direction, and makes contact with the curl straightening roller so as to prevent deformation of the curl straightening roller.
Media handling between modules robust to paper curl
An apparatus for controlling curl in sheets between two transports includes a curved baffle placed between the two transports. A thin layer of high velocity air is applied to the curved baffle. The high velocity air layer, which will have a tendency to follow the curved baffle (Coanda effect), will divert sheets (Bernoulli effect) towards the curved baffle. By positioning the curved baffle between the two transports and by applying a uniform air stream to it, a lower pressure area will be created. This will flatten the trajectory of the sheets and ensure acquisition by the downstream transport.

Examples include a sheet transport apparatus comprising a sheet inlet facing a specific side of the apparatus. The sheet transport apparatus also comprises a sheet outlet facing the specific side of the apparatus and located below the sheet inlet, the sheet outlet comprising a ceiling between the sheet outlet and the sheet inlet. The sheet transport apparatus further comprises a sheet driving mechanism configured for driving a sheet of media on a media path from the sheet inlet to the sheet outlet, and a flexible and resilient device connected to the ceiling and partially obstructing the sheet outlet.

A knockdown apparatus for a finisher includes a register tray, a paddle coupled to a rotatable shaft to compile a recording medium toward an end of the register tray, and a knockdown device, provided above the register tray, to rotate to apply a downward force to the recording medium while the recording medium is in the register tray to decrease a curl in the recording medium.

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion configured to form an image on a sheet; a pair of conveyance rotary members arranged downstream of the image forming portion in a sheet conveyance direction and configured to convey the sheet, on which the image is formed, by a conveyance nip; and a guide portion configured to guide the sheet to the conveyance. The guide portion includes a first guide member formed into a sheet shape and having a first stiffness and an abutment surface configured to abut the sheet and a second guide member formed into a sheet shape and having a second stiffness higher than the first stiffness and arranged on a side opposite to the abutment surface of the first guide member, wherein a downstream edge of the first guide member is closer to the conveyance nip than a downstream edge of the second guide member.
Decurling device and image forming apparatus including same
A decurling device includes a first frame, a second frame, a decurling unit that decurls a sheet, and a level adjustment mechanism that is capable of adjusting an inclination of the decurling unit. The decurling unit includes a housing provided with a first support part and a second support part supported by the first frame and a third support part and a fourth support part supported by the second frame, paired support rollers, an endless belt, and a decurling roller. The level adjustment mechanism adjusts, in the vertical direction, a position of one of the first support part, the second support part, the third support part, and the fourth support part in the housing to adjust the inclination of the decurling unit in the vertical direction such that the paired support rollers extend in the first direction.

A conveying device includes a pair of rotary bodies and a movable member. The pair or rotary bodies includes a first rotary body disposed in a first region, and a second rotary body disposed in a second region and facing the first rotary body across a sheet conveyance passage through which a sheet applied with liquid is conveyed. The movable member is disposed upstream from the first rotary body in a sheet conveyance direction. The movable member is configured to move between the first region and the second region with respect to the sheet conveyance passage. The movable member is configured to move to the second region in a middle of conveyance of the sheet between the first rotary body and the second rotary body.

A printer includes a first route to which a sheet from a roll paper is to be fed, a drive roller arranged on the first route and capable of sending the sheet, an image forming part (thermal printer head), a second route branched from the first route, a route changer for switching a route of the sheet, a curl corrector provided on the second route, and a cutter (cutting unit) provided on the first route. The curl corrector is configured to form the route with a curl correction roller and a guide member, and an advancing direction of the route is changeable 100 degrees or more when the sheet passes through the curl corrector.

A sheet conveyance device includes a conveyance roller pair to convey a sheet, a skew correction roller pair to correct a skew of the sheet in a state in which the skew correction roller pair is being stopped, first and second conveyance guides, and a protrusion. The first conveyance guide includes a bend contact portion to come into contact with a portion forming a bend on the first surface of the sheet. The second conveyance guides the sheet. The protrusion is disposed between the skew correction roller pair and the bend contact portion to come into contact with the first surface of the sheet. The protrusion protrudes toward the second conveyance guide from the first conveyance guide in a manner as to intersect with a straight line connecting two nip portions and the bend contact portion in a cross section perpendicular to a width direction.
