Electrowetting dispensing devices and related methods
A method for dispensing liquid for use in biological analysis may comprise positioning liquid to be dispensed via electrowetting. The positioning may comprise aligning the liquid with a plurality of predetermined locations. The method may further comprise dispensing the aligned liquid from the plurality of predetermined locations through a plurality of openings respectively aligned with the predetermined locations. The dispensing may be via electrowetting.
DIGITAL DISPENSE SYSTEM
A digital dispense system for preparing and analyzing a plurality of samples. The system includes two or more fluid droplet ejection devices. Each fluid droplet ejection device contains a fluid droplet ejection cartridge containing at least one fluid to be dispensed. The fluid droplet ejection cartridge is attached to a translation mechanism for moving the fluid droplet ejection cartridge back and forth over a sample holder in an x direction. A sample tray translation mechanism is provided for moving a sample tray along a production path in a y direction orthogonal to the x direction through the two or more fluid droplet ejection devices.
AUTOMATED MODULAR SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PRODUCTION OF BIOPOLYMERS
The present invention provides an automated modular system and method for production of biopolymers including DNA and RNA. The system and method automates the complete production process for biopolymers. Modular equipment is provided for performing production steps with the individual modules arrange in a linear array. Each module includes a control system and can be rack mounted. One side of the array of modules provides connections for power, gas, vacuum and reagents and is accessible to technicians. On the other side of the array of modules a robotic transport system is provided for transporting materials between module interfaces. The elimination of the requirement for human intervention at multiple steps in the production process significantly decreases the costs of biopolymer production and reduces unnecessary complexity and sources of quality variation.
CELL LINE, SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR OPTICAL-BASED SCREENING OF ION-CHANNEL MODULATORS
A variety of applications, systems, methods and constructs are implemented for use in connection with screening of ion-channel modulators. Consistent with one such system, drug candidates are screened to identify their effects on cell membrane ion channels and pumps. The system includes screening cells having light responsive membrane ion switches, voltage-gated ion switches and fluorescence producing voltage sensors. A chemical delivery device introduces the drug candidates to be screened. An optical delivery device activates the light responsive ion switches. An optical sensor monitors fluorescence produced by the voltage sensors. A processor processes data received from the optical sensor. A memory stores the data received from the optical sensor.

ROW-INDEPENDENT OLIGONUCLEOTIDE SYNTHESIS
Apparatuses and a method for plate-based oligonucleotide synthesis are disclosed. In one example, an apparatus used in oligonucleotide synthesis includes a machined block to receive a commercially-available synthesis plate. A keeper is used to apply pressure to the commercially-available synthesis plate, and a sealing element is used to seal the commercially-available synthesis plate to the machined block. Other methods and apparatuses are disclosed.
Modular point-of-care devices, systems, and uses thereof
The present invention provides devices and systems for use at the point of care. The methods devices of the invention are directed toward automatic detection of analytes in a bodily fluid. The components of the device are modular to allow for flexibility and robustness of use with the disclosed methods for a variety of medical applications.
A FLUIDIC DEVICE FOR ALIQUOTING AND COMBINATORIAL MIXING OF LIQUIDS
The present invention relates to fluidic devices, especially microfluidic devices, for aliquoting and pairwise combinatorial mixing of a first set of liquids with a second set of liquids. The device architecture is designed to move liquids in two separate phases, a first phase where the liquids are exposed to a first directional force field to move the liquids in a first direction, from a reservoir to aliquot chambers, and a second phase where the liquids are exposed to a second directional force field to move the liquids in a second direction, from the aliquot chambers to the mixing chambers. The first and second directional force fields that the device is exposed to may be achieved using a single directional force field (i.e. a rotor driven centrifugal force field) and by re-orienting the position of the device with respect to the centrifugal forces between the first and second phases of operation. The device architecture comprises reservoirs for each of the first fluids and reservoirs for each of the second fluids. Each reservoir is fluidically connected to aliquoting chambers, either arranged in parallel or in series, for providing aliquots of the fluid which may be metered. The conduits providing fluid communication between the reservoirs and aliquoting chambers are arranged in a first direction. A series of mixing chambers is also provided, and each mixing chamber is fluidically connected to one aliquot chamber for a first liquid and one aliquoting chamber for a second liquid. The conduits providing fluid communication between the aliquoting chambers and mixing chambers are arranged in a second direction.
