Silicic ester modified phenol/formaldehyde novolaks and their use for the production of resin coated substrates
This invention relates to a resin preparable by reaction of a phenol/formaldehyde novolak with tetraethyl orthosilicate in a mass ratio above 28:1, wherein the phenol of the phenol/formaldehyde novolak is substituted or unsubstituted hydroxybenzene or a mixture of two or more such phenols, and to a particulate material coated with said resin. Said particles can be used e.g. in the shell molding process for the production of shell molds and shell cores; and as proppants for use in the hydraulic fracturing process.
Mould material mixture containing resols and amorphous silicon dioxide, moulds and cores produced therefrom and method for the production thereof
The invention relates to mold material mixtures for producing molds and cores for metal casting, consisting of at least one refractory material, a binder based on resols and amorphous silicon dioxide. The invention also relates to a multicomponent system and methods for producing molds and cores using the mold material mixtures as well as molds and cores for metal casting produced according to this method.
USE OF CLOSED-PORE MICROSPHERES OF EXPANDED PEARLITE AS A FILLER FOR THE PRODUCTION OF MOULDINGS FOR THE FOUNDRY INDUSTRY
The present invention relates to the use of closed-pore microspheres of expanded perlite as a filler for producing moldings for the foundry industry, to a composition for producing moldings for the foundry industry, comprising closed-pore microspheres of expanded perlite as a filler, and a binder, the binder being selected from the group consisting of water glass, phenol-formaldehyde resins, two-component systems comprising as reactants a polyisocyanate and a polyol component containing free hydroxyl groups (OH groups), and starch, and also to moldings for the foundry industry and to a process for producing a molding for the foundry industry.
Compositions and Methods for Modified Ester-Curatives and Reduction of Formaldehyde Emission and Odor in Ester-Cured Phenolic Binder Systems
This invention relates to compositions and methods for reduction of formaldehyde odor and emission during the production and curing of cores and molds, particularly those cores and molds of the foundry industry which comprise ester curable phenolic binders. More specifically, included herein is an ester-curative comprising an ester and resorcinol which, when provided in a composition with a resin and an aggregate, effectively scavenges unreacted formaldehyde thereby reducing emission and odor of the same from the composition.

Binder composition for making foundry molds
A binder composition for making foundry molds, comprising an acid-hardening resin, one or more 5-position-substituted-furfural compounds selected from the group consisting of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and 5-acetoxymethylfurfural, and one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of urea and derivatives of urea, wherein the content of the 5-position-substituted-furfural compound(s) by percentage is from 1 to 60% by weight of the binder composition. The content of the compound(s) by percentage selected from the group consisting of urea and derivatives of urea is preferably from 0.3 to 10% by weight of the binder composition.
METHOD FOR THE LAYER-WISE BUILDING OF BODIES COMPRISING REFRACTORY MOLD BASE MATERIAL AND RESOLES, AND MOLDS OR CORES MANUFACTURED ACCORDING TO SAID METHOD
The invention relates to a method for the layer-wise building of bodies comprising a refractory mold base material and resoles, to three-dimensional bodies manufactured according to said method, and to the use thereof in metal casting. According to the method, the refractory mold base material is contacted with at least one ester to obtain an ester-impregnated mold material mixture.
ORGANIC BINDER, GRANULAR MATERIAL, THREE-DIMENSIONAL LAMINATION-SHAPED MOLD MAUFACTURING APPARATUS, AND THREE-DIMENSIONAL LAMINATION-SHAPED MOLD MANUFACTURING METHOD
In order to well perform recoating regardless of the type of granular material and reuse a refractory aggregate in an unprinted portion without any regeneration process in the manufacture of a three-dimensional lamination-shaped mold, this invention provides a granular material for use in shaping a three-dimensional laminated mold, which is coated with an acid as a catalyst which activates and cures an organic binder for binding the granular material. The acid contains at least one of sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, a sulfonic acid and a carboxylic acid, and is one of a mixture of sulfuric acid and another acid, phosphoric acid only, a mixture of phosphoric acid and another acid, sulfonic acid only, a mixture of sulfonic acid and another acid and a mixture of a carboxylic acid and another acid.
Foundry mix including resorcinol
A foundry mix includes a major amount of a foundry aggregate and an effective binding amount of a binder system. The foundry binder system cures in the presence of sulfur dioxide and a free radical initiator. The binder system may include (1) 10 to 70 parts by weight of an epoxy novolac resin; (2) 0.5 to 10 parts by weight of resorcinol; (3) 20 to 70 parts by weight of a monomeric or polymeric acrylate; and (4) an effective amount of a free radical initiator. Notably, (1), (2), (3) and (4) are separate components or mixed with another of said components, provided (4) is not mixed with (3) until a foundry mix is to be created, where said parts by weight are based upon 100 parts of the binder system.
