An aerosol-generating article according to one aspect of the present disclosure may include a tobacco medium portion, a filter portion disposed to be spaced apart from the tobacco medium portion, a cooling portion disposed between the tobacco medium portion and the filter portion, and a heat transfer portion surrounding at least a portion of the cooling portion.

Provided is an aerosol generating article including a combustible heat source.

A cigarette with a reduced smoke temperature and an improved flavor includes a tobacco section (1), a filter section, and a smoke backflow section arranged between the tobacco section (1) and the filter section. An inlet hole (3) is provided at the smoke backflow section near the tobacco section (1) and intercommunication with the tobacco section (1). An outlet hole (6) is provided at the smoke backflow section near the filter section and intercommunicated with the filter section. Multiple airflow baffles (5) are staggered up and down inside the smoke backflow section and form a smoke backflow channel (4) which is sinuous. A first end of the smoke backflow channel (4) is intercommunicated with the inlet hole (3), and a second end of the smoke backflow channel (4) is intercommunicated with the outlet hole (6). Smoke enters the smoke backflow section from the inlet hole (3), and then passes through the smoke backflow channel (4). In the smoke backflow section, a flow distance of the smoke is increased, and a heat exchange among hot airflow, the airflow baffles (5) and inner walls of the smoke backflow section reduces a smoke temperature.

A filter for a smoking article includes a filter component formed from a solution of cellulose acetate and a degradable polymer in aceton, the degradable polymer being soluble in acetone and degrading in the presence of water. In a first aspect of the invention, the filter component is a filter segment (16) formed of a plurality of fibers formed from the degradable solution. In a second aspect of the invention, the filter component is a wrapper (39) circumscribing at least a segment of the filter.

A smoking article comprises a rod of smokeable material such as tobacco and a tubular support in which the rod is slidably received. The tubular support is formed from a blank of sheet material that is wound in a spiral. Machinery for making the spiral blank is described.

A smoking article (1) comprising a rod (2) of smokable material with a mouth end (3) and a distal end (4) remote from the mouth end (3). The rod (2) comprises at least a first and a second segment (5, 6), wherein the first segment (5) has a distal end defining the distal end of the rod and the second segment (6) is disposed downstream of the first segment. The smoking article further comprises a mouthpiece (7), which is attached to the mouth end (3) of the rod (2), wherein the first segment (5) comprises a first tobacco blend with a first level of a smoke constituent inhibitor and the second segment (6) comprises a second tobacco blend with a second level of the smoke constituent inhibitor, wherein the second level of the smoke constituent inhibitor is lower than the first level.

An attachable unit (3) to be attached to a smoking article rod (2) by a user to modify one or more properties of an aerosol generated by the smoking article rod. The attachable unit can include a recess (30) to receive at least a portion of the smoking article rod and a raised area (50) extending around an inner surface of the recess for contacting an outer surface of the smoking article rod. The attachable unit can include a tubular element (31) to receive at least a portion of the smoking article rod. The attachable unit can include an element (20) arranged to be inserted at least partially into a recess (13) of the smoking article rod and the attachable unit can also be arranged to form a further recess (330) for receiving at least a portion of the smoking article rod.

A method for reducing the content of nitrosamines in a tobacco material is provided herein, the method involving the steps of contacting a tobacco material with a treatment solution so as to form a treatment composition containing, in addition to the tobacco material, an acid, a complexing agent, a solvent, and, optionally, a salt, at a pH of about 5.5 or less, to obtain a tobacco material having a tobacco-specific nitrosamine content that is lower than the initial tobacco-specific nitrosamine content. The method can optionally include further processing of the tobacco material. Smoking articles and other tobacco products incorporating such treated tobacco materials are also provided.

A process for preparing a filter plug for a smoking article, such as a cigarette, includes: (a) freeze-drying a solution of a biopolymer to form a structure; and (b) cutting the structure to a predetermined dimension, to thereby prepare a filter plug for a smoking article. Another process for preparing a filter plug for a smoking article, such as a cigarette, includes: (a) extruding a mixture of a foaming agent and a biopolymer comprising a protein to form a structure; and (b) cutting the structure to a predetermined dimension, to thereby form a filter plug for a smoking article.

A smoking article includes a medium accommodation portion filled with cut tobacco leaves, a moisturizer accommodation portion that is disposed on one side of the medium accommodation portion and that includes an aerosol generating material, and a filter portion disposed on another side of the medium accommodation portion. The cut tobacco leaves may include about 50 parts by weight to about 70 parts by weight of general cut leaves, about 10 parts by weight to about 30 parts by weight of expanded tobacco leaves, and about 10 parts by weight to about 30 parts by weight of a slurry-type reconstituted tobacco sheet.
