Method and apparatus for folding a web of material
A method of manufacturing a compressed rod of web material for the filter rod of an aerosol-generating article, comprising: supplying a feed of web material from a supply apparatus; drawing the web material through a filter rod manufacturing apparatus; introducing a curved ridge into the central portion of the width wise cross-section of the web material as it approaches contact with the interior of a folding funnel, by drawing the web material across a forming surface of a former that contacts a central portion of the web material, in which the forming surface deflects the central portion of the web material from a line extending between where the web material leaves the supply apparatus and the center of an outlet of the folding funnel; and folding the web material in the folding funnel to form a compressed rod of web material.
Biodegradable cigarette filter tow and method of manufacture
A biodegradable cigarette filter tow includes a mixture of at least two or more natural materials selected from the group consisting of hemp fiber, flax fiber, abaca fiber or pulp, sisal fiber or pulp, wood pulp, and cotton fiber or cotton flock. The mixture may also include regenerated cellulose fibers. The mixture may include a natural binder or may be hydroentangled.
METHOD FOR DRYING FILTER RODS
The method for drying filter rods comprises the steps of providing a filter rod, providing a support surface (2) for receiving the filter rod (4) and guiding the filter rod on the support surface by a guide element (1) arranged above the support surface. The method further comprises the step of supplying a gas stream of compressed gas having a pressure between 0 and 6 bar to the filter rod through the guide element when the filter rod is transported along the support surface, before wrapping the filter rod with a wrapping material (5).
Evaluating porosity distribution within a porous rod
A method is provided for evaluating porosity distribution within a porous article such as a crimped filter, a tobacco plug, or a cigarette, including obtaining a digital image of a transverse area of the article and determining a pore area fraction for each of a plurality of identically dimensioned sub-areas of the transverse area of the article. This provides a plurality of pore area fractions. The plurality of pore area fractions allow the evaluation of a local porosity distribution within the transverse area of the porous article. Each sub-area within which a pore area fraction is calculated overlaps with at least one adjacent sub-area by between 10% and 95%. The method for quantitatively evaluating porosity distribution may be used to control a process for manufacturing the porous article.
Method and device for detection of rotated segments in a multi-segment rod transferred in a machine used in cigarette production industry
A method and device for detection of rotated segments in a continuous multi-segment rod transferred in a machine used in tobacco industry. A signal of an error of the shape of said continuous multi-segment rod is generated, the rod including a plurality of segments arranged one after another in a common wrapping, in which the rod that is transferred in a direction along its axis is simultaneously scanned by optical sensors, the directions of scanning of the optical sensors being oriented at an angle other than 90? to each other. The rod diameter is measured by repeated scans such that the shortest segment of the rod is scanned at least once, the results of the scans being compared with a predetermined reference value, and each difference between the results of the scans and the predetermined value is converted into the signal of the error of shape.
Equipment and associated method for insertion of material into cigarette filters
Filter rods for use in the manufacture of cigarette filter elements are provided, with each rod having a longitudinal axis and incorporating a generally longitudinally extending filter material and a generally longitudinally extending strand within that filter material. A filter making unit receives a continuous supply of a filter material, and forms the filter material into a gathered composite having a continuous cylindrical shape. A continuous supply of a strand (e.g., colored thread) is provided and is introduced into the filter material gathered composite in the tongue of the filter making unit. The filter material and continuous strand positioned therein are formed into a continuous rod having the strand material laterally positioned within that rod, and the continuous rod is subdivided at pre-determined longitudinal intervals to provide a plurality of rod portions.
FILTER MATERIAL FOR SMOKING ARTICLES HAVING IMPROVED EXPANSION BEHAVIOUR
Shown is a filter material for manufacturing a segment for a smoking article, wherein the filter material is web-shaped and contains at least 50% and at most 100% cellulose fibers, each with respect to the mass of the filter material, wherein the filter material has a basis weight of at least 15 g/m.sup.2 and at most 60 g/m.sup.2, wherein the thickness of one layer of the filter material, measured in accordance with ISO 534:2011, is at least 25 m and at most 1000 m, wherein the filter material has a machine direction and a cross direction orthogonal thereto and lying in the plane of the web of the filter material, and wherein the filter material has a characteristic plastic deformability in the cross direction which is characterized in that in a tensile test in the cross direction in accordance with ISO 1924-2:2008, the nonlinear portion of the deformation energy absorbed by the filter material up to half the elongation at break is at least 10% and at most 50% of the total deformation energy absorbed by the filter material up to half the elongation at break.
DOUBLE-LAYERED TUBE OF THE TOBACCO PROCESSING INDUSTRY AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SUCH A TUBE
The invention relates to a double-layered tube of the tobacco processing industry and a method for producing such a tube. When applying a positioning adhesive, it is provided to apply said adhesive with an application thickness of 10 m to 80 m.
Alexipharmic cigarette filter material and their preparation
The present invention relates to an independent, tobacco addiction-dispelling and tobacco toxicity-detoxifying filter, and a process for preparing the same. Said process is characterized in enabling organic substances in tea leaves to exude by air entraining and heating, immersing with a suitable amount of water and stirring, enhancing the effect on dispelling tobacco addiction and detoxifying tobacco toxicity, adding a part of celluloses by using the adhesiveness and water resistant effect of the exuded organic substances to produce tea powder, tea slices and tea particles; packaging the tea powder, tea slices, tea particles and active substances and additives within the filter via a device to form a cigarette holder, a cigarette filter rod or a cigarette holder bullet core having an absorbing resistance controlled to be within the applicable scope. During smoking, the effective substances in the filter volatilizes and sublimes via heat and water vapor in the smoke, sucking force of smoking or an electronic smoking equipment and are absorbed when entering respiratory tract, so as to inhibit nicotine receptor and to achieve the cessation and detoxification effect on cigarette smoking.
