CUTTING DEVICE AND PRINTER

A cutting device, having a supporting base, a cutter section, a protrusive part, is provided. The supporting base has a first area, in which a tape is placeable, and a second area on a surface thereof The surface is formed of a resin coating layer in the first area alone between the first area and the second area. The cutter section has a blade and is movable to approach and separate from the surface. The protrusive part protrudes from the cutter section in a direction, toward which an edge of the blade points. When the cutter section approaches the surface of the supporting base, with the protrusive part contacting the surface of the supporting base in the second area, the blade cuts the tape located between the surface of the supporting base in the first area and the blade partly in a direction of thickness of the tape.

The positioning includes: starting rotating the rotary body in one direction on the basis of the first signal at the time of starting the positioning; halting the rotation in the one direction of the rotary body on the basis of the second signal; and rotating the rotary body in the opposite direction for a prescribed time period after the halting is completed.

The force applicator is moveable in order to, in use, apply a force to consecutive portions of the blade in the direction of the platen so as to provide a rolling engagement between the blade and the platen. The first link member is swingable according to sliding movement of a first groove cam in the rotating body with respect to a first pin in the first link member. The second link member is swingable according to sliding movement of a second pin in the first link member with respect to a second groove cam in the second link member. The movable blade holder is swingable according to sliding movement of a third pin in the second link member with respect to a third groove cam in the movable blade holder between a cutting position, at which a printing medium is nipped to be cut between a movable blade and the placement part, and a retracted position retracted from the cutting position.

The first link member is swingable by rotation the rotating body. The second link member is swingable by the movement of the first link member. The movable blade holder is swingable by the movement of the second link member between a cutting position and a retracted position. The rotating body is located sideward from a basal end portion of the movable blade holder, the motor is located sideward from a center of the placement part, a swing axis of the second link member is located sideward from the second end of the placement part, and the first link member is located between the second link member and the rotating body, sideward from the center of the placement part, in a predetermined orientation.

The controller (4) is configured to position the one or more cutters (51) based on the determined footprint and to cut vertical edges of the carton based on the determined height and also to position the one or more markers (61) based on the determined footprint and eight and to score or crease vertical walls of the carton between the vertical edges to at least partially define foldable panels.
