A smoking article assembly (100) comprising a smoking article (80), and a tube (10) for temporary affixment to the smoking article. The smoking article comprises a tobacco rod, and a mouthpiece comprising a filter and a tipping wrapper, the tipping wrapper circumscribing the filter and attaching the filter to the tobacco rod. The tube is configured to be disposed around at least a portion of the mouthpiece such that the tube is slidable over the outer surface of the tipping wrapper. The tube comprises an open upstream end; an open downstream end; an outer surface; and an inner surface defining a lumen for receiving the mouthpiece of the smoking article, the lumen extending from the open upstream end to the open downstream end. The coefficient of static friction between the inner surface of the tube and the outer surface of the tipping wrapper may be between about 0.5 and about 0.9. The lumen may be substantially cylindrical and have a diameter that is between one percent and four percent greater than the average diameter of the smoking article mouthpiece.

An inner surface of the tubular element (18) is substantially air impermeable. The second segment further comprises a frangible or irreversibly collapsible flow restrictor (24) disposed in the tubular element (18). When the flow restrictor (24) is in a substantially unbroken or non-collapsed state, the filter unit (14) has a first RTD. When the flow restrictor (24) is broken or collapsed, the filter unit (14) has a second RTD, the second RTD being smaller than the first RTD.

The blocking segment (27) comprising the at least one freshener delivery element (26) is detachable from the at least one segment of porous filter material (20) to decrease the resistance to draw of the aerosol-generating article (10).

The present disclosure provides thermal energy absorbers for use in smoking articles. In an example embodiment, the smoking article may comprise an outer wrap circumscribing at least a portion of the smoking article, wherein the smoking article is defined by an upstream lighting end and a downstream mouth end, a carbon heat source positioned proximate the lighting end, a tobacco material positioned downstream of the carbon heat source and spatially separated from the mouth end of the smoking article, and a thermal energy absorber at least partially positioned between the tobacco material and the carbon heat source.
