A smoking article assembly (100) comprising a smoking article (80), and a tube (10) for temporary affixment to the smoking article. The smoking article comprises a tobacco rod, and a mouthpiece comprising a filter and a tipping wrapper, the tipping wrapper circumscribing the filter and attaching the filter to the tobacco rod. The tube is configured to be disposed around at least a portion of the mouthpiece such that the tube is slidable over the outer surface of the tipping wrapper. The tube comprises an open upstream end; an open downstream end; an outer surface; and an inner surface defining a lumen for receiving the mouthpiece of the smoking article, the lumen extending from the open upstream end to the open downstream end. The coefficient of static friction between the inner surface of the tube and the outer surface of the tipping wrapper may be between about 0.5 and about 0.9. The lumen may be substantially cylindrical and have a diameter that is between one percent and four percent greater than the average diameter of the smoking article mouthpiece.

SMOKING ARTICLE

A smoking article includes a first and a second engaging surface spaced circumferentially, and a control element movable between the first and second engaging surfaces. A ventilation area is configured to be selectively covered by the movable control element. The control element includes a first limiting edge configured to engage with the first engaging surface and a second limiting edge configured to engage with the second engaging surface to limit rotational movement.

A smoking article (10) comprises a tobacco rod (12) and a filter (14) connected to the tobacco rod (12). The filter (14) comprises a first filter segment (20) and a hollow tube segment (22) downstream of the first filter segment (20). The hollow tube segment (22) defines a cavity (24) at the mouth end of the filter (14) providing an unrestricted flow channel that extends from the downstream end of the first filter segment (20) to the mouth end of the filter (14). The length of the hollow tube segment (22) is at least about 25 percent of the overall filter length. Further, the smoking article (10) comprises a ventilation zone (26) comprising at least one circumferential row of perforations provided at a location around the first filter segment (20).

Smoking article and a method of manufacturing a smoking article

A smoking article comprises a first filter section, and a second filter section located downstream of the first filter section. The first filter section comprises a material with a first pressure drop per unit length, the second filter section comprises a material with a second pressure drop per unit length, and the second pressure drop per unit length is greater than the first pressure drop per unit length. The smoking article comprises a ventilation system configured to selectively provide ingress of a variable level of ventilating air.

An aerosol-generating article is provided, including: a fluid guide having proximal and distal ends, and an inner longitudinal region including an inner longitudinal passageway between the distal end and the proximal end thereof, such that fluid can travel from the distal end to the proximal end, the fluid guide including a barrier between the inner and outer longitudinal passageways; a tubular element including a gel or a porous medium or a thread loaded or any combination, the gel or the medium or the thread or the combination includes an active agent, the tubular element having proximal and distal ends and disposed to a distal side of the fluid guide; an aperture to allow fluid to pass to the tubular element and exit the article at the proximal end; a combustible heat source at the distal end of the article; and a cavity between the fluid guide and the tubular element.

Filter components, filters, smoking articles, and related methods, all for the controlled delivery of aerosols

A filter for a smoking article comprises a mouth end filter segment and a rod end filter segment. The rod end filter segment has a passage extending longitudinally therethrough. The passage has a diameter of about 1.0 mm or greater. In one embodiment, the rod end filter segment is comprised of an infinite pressure drop material. In another embodiment, the rod end filter segment is comprised of a low pressure drop material having a hollow tubular element disposed within to define the passage with an inner diameter greater than about 1.55 mm. Air dilution means are disposed in one of said filter segments to admit ventilating air into the filter.
