Aerosol-cooling elements for use with an apparatus for heating smokable material are disclosed. In one example, the element is a rod having a first end and a second end and comprising at least one tube within the rod, with the at least one tube extending between the first end and the second end so as to provide a through hole extending between the first end and the second end of the rod.

There is provided a filter unit for a smoking article having a tube formed from filter material and the tube having a first portion and a second portion, wherein an inner diameter of the first portion is different from an inner diameter of the second portion. There is also provided a tube having a longitudinal axis, wherein a straight line following at least a portion of an internal or external surface of the tube intersects the longitudinal axis at an angle other than 90. Also described is a body or tube of filter material having a longitudinal axis, a first end surface and a second end surface, said body or tube formed from a plurality of continuous fibres extending between said first and second end surfaces, wherein the density of said filter material is greater at said first end surface than at said second end surface. A body of filter material is also described having a longitudinal axis and a channel or recess formed in the body of filter material, the shape of said body of filter material having no lines of reflective symmetry, as well as a body formed from filter material, the body having an end surface and a recess formed in the end surface. A smoking article including the filter unit and a kit comprising a smoking article and a filter unit are also described.

A cone shaped cigarette with hard tip and method for manufacture where a cone shaped paper encasement can contain shredded botanical material and a hard tip member having an inhaling aperture is inserted into the small end of the cone shaped paper encasement by an FDA approved adhesive. A filter member can be inserted into the tip of the hard tip member. A preferred embodiment includes the hard tip member being made of borosilicate glass. The hard tip member can be cylindrical in shape or cone shaped to match the side walls of the paper encasement. A preferred embodiment includes the glass hard tip member being transparent and the filter member is colored allowing the filter member to be viewed through the glass hard tip member.

The invention discloses a granular cigarette, comprising a tobacco tube encapsulated with tobacco particles; one end of the tube is provided with a filtering component and the other end a sealing component; the tobacco particles are arranged between the filtering and the sealing components. The filtering component can adopt traditional filtering cotton or filtering silica gel strip; the sealing component can adopt aluminum foil, tobacco sheet, self-closing silica gel plug, and glue film. A capsule packaging can be further adopted for the tobacco particles to solve the problem that the particles easily fall out during production. The invention replaces the low-temperature non-burning cigarette with a thin-film technology by encapsulating a granular cigarette, which has the advantages of simple production process, sufficient heating, uniform smoke, and the smoke can shuttle between particles; the problem of easy falling out of particles can be solved by the filtering and the sealing components.

Cigarettes are provided which contain a filtering system and flavorants encapsulated with polyvinyl acetate, wherein deactivation of a sorbent by the flavorant is reduced through the encapsulation of the flavorant within the polyvinyl acetate. A preferred flavorant is menthol. The encapsulated flavorants are prepared by mixing at least one flavorant with polyvinyl acetate and a solvent, such as ethanol, and forming the encapsulated flavorants. Methods of making cigarettes and smoking the articles are also provided.

Cigarettes are provided which contain a filtering system and flavorants encapsulated with polyvinyl acetate, wherein deactivation of a sorbent by the flavorant is reduced through the encapsulation of the flavorant within the polyvinyl acetate. A preferred flavorant is menthol. The encapsulated flavorants are prepared by mixing at least one flavorant with polyvinyl acetate and a solvent, such as ethanol, and forming the encapsulated flavorants. Methods of making cigarettes and smoking the articles are also provided.

Improved delivery of additive materials to cigarettes is provided through the use of one or more capsules containing additive materials, such as flavor components, in the filter section of a cigarette. The sealed capsule or capsules are subjected to an external force, such as squeezing, by a smoker prior to or during smoking of the cigarette in order to release at least a portion of the additive material from the one or more capsules and expose the additive material to mainstream smoke passing through the filter. The sealed capsules provide a barrier between the additive materials and other cigarettes components, such as sorbents or filter materials, in order to reduce additive material migration into the other cigarette components prior to desired use.

A smoking article filter comprising: a filter material having a circular cylinder shape with first and second end surfaces and a side surface, and including a corrugated film with ridge portions and valley portions arranged alternately, the ridge portions and valley portions extending from the first end surface to the second end surface to form a plurality of air flow paths that allow air to flow from the first end surface to the second end surface; a plurality of particles arranged in the air flow paths; and a filter wrapping paper wrapping the filter material such that the side surface is covered with the filter wrapping paper.
