Filter unit for a smoking article

There is provided a filter unit for a smoking article having a tube formed from filter material and the tube having a first portion and a second portion, wherein an inner diameter of the first portion is different from an inner diameter of the second portion. There is also provided a tube having a longitudinal axis, wherein a straight line following at least a portion of an internal or external surface of the tube intersects the longitudinal axis at an angle other than 90°. Also described is a body or tube of filter material having a longitudinal axis, a first end surface and a second end surface, said body or tube formed from a plurality of continuous fibres extending between said first and second end surfaces, wherein the density of said filter material is greater at said first end surface than at said second end surface. A body of filter material is also described having a longitudinal axis and a channel or recess formed in the body of filter material, the shape of said body of filter material having no lines of reflective symmetry, as well as a body formed from filter material, the body having an end surface and a recess formed in the end surface. A smoking article including the filter unit and a kit comprising a smoking article and a filter unit are also described.

TOBACCO SMOKE FILTER

A tobacco smoke filter or filter element comprising: a longitudinally extending core which includes first and second longitudinally extending rods of tobacco smoke filtering material, wherein the first rod of tobacco smoke filtering material is distanced longitudinally from the second rod of tobacco smoke filtering material; a wrapper engaged around the first and second longitudinally extending rods such that the wrapper defines a cavity between the first and second rods of tobacco smoke filtering material; and at least one receptacle for an additive located in the cavity, wherein the maximum width or diameter of the receptacle for an additive is less than half the maximum diameter of the cavity and the void space remaining in the cavity is greater than 50% of the volume of the cavity, the receptacle being free to move within the cavity.

Smoking article with concentric filter

A smoking article (10) incorporates a tobacco rob (12) and a filter attached to the tobacco rod. The filter includes a concentric filter segment (20) having a central core portion (23) with sorbent material and an outer periphery layer (24) circumscribed about the central core portion. At least about 80 weight % of the sorbent in the smoking article is disposed in the central core portion. The central core portion has a lower RTD than the periphery layer. A ventilation zone (30) is disposed adjacent an upstream end of the concentric sorbent segment.

Apparatus consistent with the present disclosure may be a pipe that includes heat transfer materials that have a thermal conductivity of greater than 50 Watts per meter Kelvin. Heat transfer materials may include one or more solid heat sinks (that are rigidly connected to each other or to a portion of the pipe), Peltier devices, or loose fill of a desired size or shape. Fill included in the pipe may also absorb particulate matter or volatile organic compounds. As a user burns or vaporizes materials at one end of the pipe and sucks heated smoke or vapor into the pipe, that user may inhale cool and clean smoke or vapor. Methods and apparatus consistent with the present disclosure may allow a controller at the pipe to send sensor or consumption data to other electronic devices when a number of milligrams of a substance inhaled by a patient are monitored.

Vaporizer filter

A filter for an vaporizer has a housing having a sidewall and a top. A filter element is contained in the housing adjacent to the top. The filter element has an outer element concentrically arranged around an inner element. The outer element contains elongated fibrous filtering members containing quartz wool in order to reduce heavy metals contained in vapor passing through the filter. The inner element contains and delivers to the user flavorings or medications. A removable sanitary wrapper is disposed around the housing of the filter. The filter may also be configured as a replacement mouthpiece for a vaporizer.
