Extrudable polymer composites with membrane barrier properties
The present disclosure generally relates to extrusion die systems. In particular, the present disclosure relates to the cyclical extrusion of materials to generate small sized grain features, generally in the range of nanosized grain features, in a tubular or profile shape, in which the individual nanolayers possess pores and/or polymer crystals oriented parallel to the extrusion flow direction and including products with enhanced permeation properties.
LAYER SEQUENCE REPEATER MODULE FOR A MODULAR DISK CO-EXTRUSION DIE AND PRODUCTS THEREOF
A layer sequence repeater module for a co-extrusion die includes a cell formed of a plurality of thin annular disks stacked on top of each other in an axial direction of the co-extrusion die. Each disk includes a plurality of openings aligned with openings in the adjacent disks, thus forming multiple inner and outer melt passages. At least one of the layer sequence repeater module includes at least one first cap disk, at least one second cap disk, at least one distribution disk, at least one repeater disk and at least one spreader disk. The layer sequence repeater module may be a separately assembled and individually removable module of the co-extrusion die. Alternatively or additionally, the layer sequence repeater module may be incorporated into a module of the co-extrusion die.
Co-extrusion print head with edge bead reduction
A co-extrusion print head has at least one channel, and a set of orifices fluidically connected to the channel, wherein the set of orifices has at least one orifice at each edge of the set has a smaller vertical extent than the other orifices.
Co-extruded conformal battery separator and electrode
A co-extrusion print head has at least one separator inlet port, at least a first, second and third series of channels arranged to receive a separator material from the separator inlet port, at least one electrode inlet port, a fourth series of channels arranged to receive an electrode material from the electrode inlet port, a first merge portion connected to the first, second, third and fourth series of channels, the merge portion positioned to receive and merge the separator material into a separator flow and the electrode material into an electrode flow, a second merge portion connected to the first merge portion, the second merge portion positioned to receive and merge the separator flows and the electrode flows, and an outlet port connected to the second merge portion, the outlet port arranged to deposit the separator and electrode materials from the merge portion as a stack on a substrate.
APPARATUS FOR MANUFACTURING MULTILAYER POLYMERIC FILMS
A feedblock including a first packet creator that forms a first packet including a first plurality of polymeric layers, the first plurality of layers including at least four first individual polymeric layers; and a second packet creator that forms a second packet including a second plurality of polymeric layers, the second plurality of layers including at least four second individual polymeric layers, wherein the first and second packet creators are configured such that, for each packet creator, respective individual polymeric layers of the plurality of polymeric layers are formed at approximately the same time. The feedblock may include a packet combiner that receives and combines the first and second primary packets to form a multilayer stream. In some examples, at least one of the first and second primary packets may be spread in the cross-web direction prior to being combined with one another.
Extrudable Oriented Polymer Composites
A novel tubular or profile shapes of co-extruded multilayer polymers. These materials contain tens to thousands of layers of micro- to nano-polymer layers. These new shapes contain contiguous layers of milli- to nano-polymer layers in three dimensions and these contiguous layers may be twisted or turned to further expand the potential microlayer geometries.
Scintillator stack, device including the scintillator stack, and method for making the scintillator stack
A scintillator stack includes a light-transportation layer and a scintillator layer. The scintillator stack can be included in a scintillator device. The scintillator stack can be made using a co-extrusion method.
Process for Producing Multilayer Film
A process for producing a film is provided and includes extruding a multilayer film with a core component comprising from 15 to 1000 alternating layers of layer A material and layer B material. The layer A material has a crystallization temperature, T.sub.1c. The process includes passing the multilayer film across an air gap having a length from 10 mm to 800 mm. The process includes moving the multilayer film across a roller at a rate from 20 kg/hr to 1000 kg/hr. The process includes maintaining the roller at a temperature from T.sub.1c30 C. to T.sub.1c, and forming a multilayer film with a layer A having a thickness from 50 nm to 500 nm and an effective moisture permeability from 0.77 to 2.33 g-mil/m.sup.2/24 hrs.
Process, apparatus and system for creating extruded material having color effects and products made with extruded material created with same
A process and associated system for creating color effects using extrudable material, such as plastic and metal for example, are presented. Flows of first and second viscous materials of respective colors are provided and then combined in a predetermined pattern to form a stream of combined viscous material. A dynamic mixer is the then used to apply a predetermined dividing, overturning and combining motion to the stream of combined viscous material to partially mix the first viscous material and the second viscous material, such that upon exiting the dynamic mixer, the first material of the first color and the second material of the second color form a color pattern in the stream of combined viscous material. The dynamic mixer has elements configured for acquiring a specific radial orientation in a range of radial orientations that may be varied during the application of the dividing, overturning and combining motion to the stream of combined viscous material to cause variations in the color pattern in the stream of combined viscous material. Sheets of extruded material may be created using such process and system and used in the manufacturing of many different products including, but not limited to, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, garden furniture and many others. In some embodiments, the sheets may be characterized by color bands extending diagonally with reference to a longitudinal extent of the sheet.
