Device and method for the adjustment of the thickness profile in the production of blown films
A device arranged in the cooling ring of an apparatus for the production of blown films in order to adjust the thickness profile thereof is disclosed. The device includes a plurality of equally spaced motor-driven actuators that adjust the flow rate of the flow of a cooling fluid directed towards a forming cone, as well as a plurality of equally spaced resistances provided with finned dissipators arranged in the path of the cooling flow. In this way, the device combines the characteristics of low power consumption and high adjustment velocity of a volumetric device with the higher angular resolution achievable through the heating elements of a thermal device, and all of this with an operating method that prevents the risks of bubble instability or adhesion, achieves a high energy efficiency and guarantees a wide thickness adjustment range.
Formed Thermoplastic Article Having Smooth Edges
The disclosure relates to forming shaped thermoplastic articles having smooth peripheries. Many thermoplastic articles have sharp edges formed upon molding or cutting the article from a feedstock sheet. Such sharp edges can damage thin plastic films or flesh which they contact, and smoothing the edges is desirable. Described herein are methods of forming a smooth periphery for such sharp-edged articles by rolling over the sharp edge. The smoothing operation is performed by forming a deflectable flange including a bend region separated from the potentially sharp peripheral edge by a spacer, deflecting a portion of the deflectable flange, and softening at least one bent portion of the deflectable flange to yield a smooth periphery upon cooling.
Multilayer non-cross-linked heat-shrinkable packaging films
The present invention provides a multilayer packaging film characterized by an improved sealability even through contamination with excellent shrinkability good optics and strength without using internal layers of stiff resins and cross-linking, to flexible containers made therefrom, such as bags, pouches and the like, useful for packaging articles, in particular food items.
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY DRY CLEANING BAGS AND METHODS OF MAKING SAME
A method of manufacturing a biodegradable dry cleaning bag is disclosed, the method including loading an environmentally friendly slurry into a hopper, extruding the environmentally friendly slurry, passing the environmentally friendly slurry through a die, inflating the environmentally friendly slurry into a cylindrical shape, thereby creating a cylindrical member, passing the cylindrical member over a first roller, and rolling the cylindrical member onto a roll.
SIZER FOR AN EXTRUSION MACHINE WITH IMPROVED COOLING AND VACUUM CHANNELS
A sizer for cooling an extrudate includes a core and a housing. The core includes an extrusion channel which accommodates the extrudate, a core cooling channel, and a core vacuum channel in fluid communication with said extrusion channel. The housing includes a housing cooling channel, a housing vacuum channel, a cooling intake, and a cooling exhaust. The housing cooling and vacuum channels having curved segments. The cooling intake and exhaust being in fluid communication with said housing cooling channel.
Cyclic-diene additives in polyethylene films and enhanced film orientation balance in production thereof
A method of forming a blown film comprising extruding a molten composition through a die opening to form a film; wherein the molten composition comprises at least one polyethylene and within the range from 0.10 wt % to 10 wt % of a cyclic-diene terpolymer by weight of the composition; causing the film to progress in a direction away from the die opening; cooling the film at a distance from the die opening, the distance adjusted to effect the properties of the film; and isolating a blown film therefrom.

Formed thermoplastic article having a smoothly-curved distal periphery
A liner sheet may be attached to the feedstock sheet prior to, during, or after forming and can be peelable therefrom.
Polyethylene films and production of such films
A method of forming a finished film comprising extruding a molten polyethylene comprising a diene terpolymer modifier through a die opening to form a film, wherein the diene-terpolymer modifier is a terpolymer comprising ethylene-derived units, C.sub.3 to C.sub.10 -olefin derived units, and diene-derived units; causing the film to progress in a direction away from the die opening; cooling the film at a distance from the die opening, the distance adjusted to allow relaxation of the molten polyethylene prior to solidification and/or crystallization upon cooling; and isolating a finished film therefrom. Desirably, the polyethylene is a linear low density polyethylene, and the die and cooling is suitable for forming a blown film.
ADJUSTABLE VENTURI RING
An apparatus includes an upper lip positioned with respect to an air flow passage. The upper lip is to direct air flow from the air flow passage around a bubble of blown film. The apparatus further includes a Venturi ring movably mounted with respect to the upper lip and adjustable in position with respect to the upper lip. The Venturi ring is to adjustably lock the bubble of blown film.
