A vehicle lamp includes a lamp housing having an inner space and a welding surface, and a cover disposed adjacent to another vehicle lamp, and configured to cover the inner space and join to the lamp housing by laser welding. The cover includes a design surface in which an outer surface of an outer peripheral portion is formed as a curved surface and a welding leg that protrudes from a portion near the outer peripheral portion in the design surface. An annular portion on an inner peripheral side of the curved surface on an outer surface of the design surface is formed as a laser light incident surface. The curved surface is positioned on an outer peripheral side from an intersection point of a virtual line and the outer surface of the design.

The collar includes a transparent material configured to transmit the laser emission through the collar and toward the housing or the cover.

Method of joining metal, plastic member, and carbon fiber reinforced plastic member

A method of joining a metal and a plastic member, a method of joining a CFRP member and a plastic member, a method of joining a metal and a CFRP member through a plastic member, in particular a method of joining members able to join members by a faster joining speed and able to give a joined member excellent in joining strength are provided. A method of joining a metal and a plastic member by overlaying a metal and a plastic member and joining them by firing a laser beam from the plastic member side, comprising overlaying the plastic member and glass through which the laser beam will pass on the metal in that order and firing the laser beam from the plastic member side through the glass at a joining location where the metal and the plastic member are overlaid to join them by a joining speed of 0.5 m to 5.0 m/min.

LASER WELDING SYSTEM AND METHOD USING COOLING MASK TO CONTROL THE WIDTH OF THE WELD

A laser welding method and system for joining portions of first and second workpieces of thermoplastic material that is partially permeable to a laser beam but absorbs radiation from the laser beam. The first and second workpieces, which are made of material that absorbs radiation from a laser beam, are clamped together. A mask is placed on a first surface of the first workpiece, the first surface being opposite the surface engaging the second workpiece. The mask is impermeable to a laser beam and forms a slot for passing a laser beam to the portion of the first surface of the upper workpiece exposed by the slot, so that heating and melting of the material of the workpieces is limited to the width of the slot. A laser beam is directed onto the slot and moved in a manner to illuminate the slot to melt and join the workpieces.

Method for welding two polyamide plastics

The present invention relates to a method for welding two polyamide plastics using a primer, the primer containing at least one polymer synthesized from at least one maleic anhydride or maleic anhydride derivative. The invention also relates to correspondingly welded products.

Method for welding a polyolefin plastic and a plastic based on a polymer containing carbonyl groups

Disclosed is a method for welding a polyolefin plastic and a plastic based on at least one polymer containing carbonyl groups, using a primer which contains, in relation to the proportion of polymer, at least 20 wt. % of a polymer that comprises maleic anhydride or maleic anhydride derivative units. Also disclosed are correspondingly welded products.

Joining of thermoplastic to metal with enhanced interfacial chemical bonding

A method of attaching a thermoplastic-based workpiece and a metal workpiece involves the use of a metal reaction coating. The metal reaction coating is applied over a base metal substrate of the metal workpiece such that the metal reaction coating faces and contacts the thermoplastic-based workpiece when the two workpieces are assembled in overlapping fashion. To attach the workpieces at their faying interface, an energy source such as, for example, a laser beam or an electric arc, is directed against the metal workpiece to create a zone of concentrated heat that at least warms up the metal reaction coating and melts a portion of the thermoplastic-based workpiece. Such heated activity at the faying interface promotes interfacial chemical bonding between the thermoplastic-based workpiece and the metal workpiece that contributes to an enhanced attachment between the workpieces.

HIGH STRENGTH POLYMER METAL COMPOSITES AND METHODS OF MAKING THEREOF
