Method of and system for coating a field joint of a pipe

A method of coating a field joint of a pipeline places at least one body having a thermoplastics material around the field joint. The body is heated in a mold cavity around the field joint to effect thermal expansion of the thermoplastics material. Thermal expansion of the body in the mold cavity is constrained to apply elevated pressure between the body and pipe sections joined at the field joint. The elevated pressure improves bonding and fusing between the body, which forms a field joint coating, and the parent coatings and the exposed pipe sections of the pipe joints. The body need not be fully molten, which reduces the mold residence time including in-mold heating and cooling phases.

Electrofusion Fitting Methods

The invention provides improvements to electrofusion fitting methods that allow for continuity and repeatability of welds between an electrofusion fitting and a pipe lining (or stand-alone pipe). An electrofusion fitting for joining sections of lined pipe has heating elements configured to create at least one weld between the electrofusion fitting and a pipe lining, however prior to the weld step taking place the electrofusion fitting is heated and expands accordingly to ensure contact with the pipe lining. Preheating the electrofusion fitting also provides a predetermined starting temperature for the fitting and the lining which results in improved fusion cycle reliability. Furthermore, the need for clamps or support frames to support the electrofusion fitting in situ is removed, with corresponding reductions in cycle times, complexity, and hence cost.

Ceramic tile fan blade containment

Fan blade containment system includes circular tile layer of annular ceramic tiles attached to and extending radially inwardly from a shell, radially inner and outer annular surfaces of ceramic tiles bonded to a radially inner composite layer and the shell respectively with elastomeric inner and outer adhesive layers respectively. Elastomeric adhesive layers between circumferentially adjacent overlapped or scarfed edges along circumferential edges of the ceramic tiles overlap and mate along oppositely facing surfaces of adjacent ones of the ceramic tiles. Inner and outer adhesive layers and elastomeric adhesive layer may be a double-sided adhesive foam tape. Scarfed edges may be bevels or rabbets. Shell may be made of a metal or composite material. Fan blade containment system may be bonded to and extend inwardly from fan case circumscribing fan blades of a fan. Inner composite layer and composite outer shell may be co-cured with ceramic tiles therebetween.

Fuel tank made of polyketone and method of manufacturing the same

Provided are a fuel tank made of polyketone and a method of manufacturing the same. The method includes injection-molding an upper cover and a lower cover using an injection-molding machine, placing the upper cover and the lower cover at a relatively high position and a relatively low position, respectively, assembling the upper cover and the lower cover with each other, and bonding contact surfaces between the upper cover and the lower cover to each other using a laser beam. Since the upper cover and the lower cover are formed at the same time and are bonded to each other immediately after being assembled by a machine, it is possible to achieve automated production, mass production and remarkable cost reduction. Further, since the fuel tank has sufficient rigidity due to the rigidity of polyketone without an additional reinforcing member, it is possible to manufacture a lightweight fuel tank.

Battery state detection apparatus and method for manufacturing same

A battery state detection device includes a casing (8) and a lid part (24). The casing (8) includes a board storage space (23) that stores a circuit board. The casing (8) includes an open mouth through which one side of the board storage space (23) is opened. The lid part (24) closes the open mouth of the casing (8). The lid part (24) is provided with a tapered surface (77). The casing (8) is provided with a contact portion (78) that can be in contact with the tapered surface (77). In a state where the tapered surface (77) and the contact portion (78) are in contact with each other, ultrasonic welding between the casing (8) and the lid part (24) is performed.

INTEGRATED ABLATIVE HEAT SHIELD

An integrated heat shield which encloses a frame structure comprises a leading edge component, a left side component, a right side component, an optionally top component, an optional bottom component and an optional trailing edge subassembly, wherein the leading edge component and the left and right side components are directly, integrally co-cured on the frame structure while in a B-stage. The leading edge component and the left and right side components are shingle laminated to form ply angles to air flow. The leading edge component and the side components are scarf-jointed or step-jointed. The side components and trailing edge subassembly are also scarf jointed or step-jointed. The co-curing as well as the scarf or step joints makes the heat shield an integrated assembly. A method of manufacturing the integrated heat shield is further introduced.

REPAIR INCLUDING A CHAMFERED BRACKET AND A CHAMFERED BRACKET COMPONENT FOR REINFORCING A DAMAGED STRUCTURAL ELEMENT MADE FROM COMPOSITE MATERIALS
20180169979 · 2018-06-21 ·

A repair for a structural element made from a composite material includes a bracket defining a first surface and a second surface. The first surface is adapted for facing the structural element. A chamfer is located on a first end of the bracket. An angle is defined between a plane of the chamfer and a plane of the first surface, the first surface of the bracket being adapted to be disposed adjacent to a side of the structural element. The repair also includes a sealant material between the bracket and the structural element, where the sealant material occupies a space established between the chamfer and the structural element.

Controlled Translation Method of Affixing a Termination to a Tensile Member
20180104910 · 2018-04-19 ·

A method for creating a termination by attaching some kind of fitting to the end of a tensile member such as a cable. The end fitting is provided with an internal cavity. The cavity has a proximal portion that is adjacent the area where the tensile member exits the fitting and a distal portion on its opposite end. A length of the tensile member's filaments is placed within this expanding cavity and infused with liquid potting compound. The method exploits the characteristic of a liquid potting compound as it transitions to a solid. The potting compound in one portion of the cavity is typically transitioned to a solid at a more rapid rate than other portions. Once the potting compound in one portion of the cavity has transitioned sufficiently to hold the filaments at the desired level, tension is placed on the tensile member and a small linear displacement may be imposed on the tensile member. This linear displacement tends to pull the filaments residing in the potting compound into better alignment and improve load sharing.
