The welding method preheats the surface before heating the surface with the laser beam. A welding device includes a heat device having an infrared light source disposed to extend along a feed path for the strip member. The heat device is configured to irradiate the surface with infrared light to heat the surface with infrared light. The welding device includes a pressure device configured to pressurize the strip member and the film to weld the surface to the film.

Ultrasonic welding systems and methods using dual, synchronized horns on opposite sides of parts to be joined

An ultrasonic system and method for sealing a complex interface, such as a Gable top, having multiple and a variety of layers across the interface, or an oval or round spout having a complex geometry. The system includes two ultrasonic horns arranged opposite a gap between which the interface is provided. The frequency and phase of the ultrasonic energy are synchronized as the energy is applied simultaneously while the interface is pressed between a jaw and the energy is applied to both sides of the interface. Only one application of the frequency- and phase-synchronized ultrasonic energy is required to hermetically seal all the layers of the interface together.

APPARATUSES AND METHODS FOR FORMING POUCH PRODUCT

In an example embodiment, an apparatus for making pouch products includes a conveyor system. The conveyor system includes a first receiving location along a path of the conveyor system, and a dosing location along the path of the conveyor system. The apparatus also includes a first material dispensing station configured to transfer a first material to the first receiving location. The first material includes a first elastic layer and a first support layer. The first material dispensing station includes a dispenser roller configured to hold a roll of the first material, a plurality of rollers configured to convey the first material from the dispenser roller to the first receiving location, and a stripper plate configured remove at least a portion of the first support layer from a portion of the first elastic layer.

An absorbent article includes a stretchable sheet that is a laminate of a non-stretchable first sheet layer, a non-stretchable second sheet layer, and an elastic film disposed between the first and second sheet layers, and the elastic film is stretchable at least in the front-back direction. The first sheet layer is bonded to the second sheet layer at a large number of joints directly or through the elastic film and the joints are arrayed at intervals. The stretchable sheet is contracted by a contraction force of the elastic film and can be stretched by an external force applied in the front-back direction. The leg portion is also contracted by a contraction force of the elastic film and can be stretched by an external force applied in the width direction. The leg portions and adjoined regions have different joint area rates and thereby have different stretching stresses.

A COUNTER-PRESSURE ROLLER, AN ARRANGEMENT AND A METHOD THEREOF

A counter-pressure roller for applying pressure on a longitudinal sealing of a packaging material web comprises, a first back-panel support section having a first radius and a second back-panel support section having a second radius, for supporting first and second back-panels of the web, respectively. The first radius is greater than the second radius, and a groove is between the first and second back-panel support sections, for holding a longitudinal overlap section formed by first and second edge sections of the first and second back-panels, respectively. The first edge section is positionable outside the second edge section, with the first edge section facing a bottom of the groove. The bottom has a third radius less than or equal to the second radius. The groove has a first groove edge section having a first inclination, and a second groove edge section having a second inclination.

APPARATUS FOR FABRICATING AN ELASTIC NONWOVEN MATERIAL

An apparatus for fabricating an elastic nonwoven material generally includes a first bonding module and a second bonding module. The second bonding module is positionable in close proximity to the first bonding module for receiving a first nonwoven fabric, a second nonwoven fabric, and at least one elastic strand therebetween. The second bonding module has a face with a width dimension and a circumferential axis and is rotatable about a rotation axis. The face has a plurality of ridges includes a first ridge and a pair of second ridges positioned on opposing sides of the first ridge along the circumferential axis. The first ridge defines a plurality of interspaced lands and notches, and the second ridges are configured to sever the at least one elastic strand when in close proximity to the first bonding module.

Films and bags with visually distinct regions and methods of making the same

One or more implementations of a multi-layer film include a first layer non-continuously bonded to a second pigmented layer. The multi-layer film includes an unexpected appearance differing from the appearance of the pigmented layer. In one or more embodiments, the multi-layer film includes a metallic appearance despite the pigmented layer being devoid of metallic pigment. The multi-layer film also includes areas that are visually distinct from areas of the film with the unexpected appearance. The visually-distinct areas comprise areas in which the first layer non-continuously is in intimate contact with the second pigmented layer. The visually-distinct areas have the appearance of the pigmented layer or another appearance. One or more implementations also include methods of making multi-layer films and bags with an unexpected appearance and visually-distinct areas.

Flexible bonding

A flexible bonding roll including one or more pressure applying members is configured to operatively engage an anvil roll. The one or more pressure applying members include one or more spring elements. The spring elements allow for the one or more pressure applying members to compress as the pressure applying members are engaged by the outer circumferential surface of the anvil roll. The compression of the pressure applying members allows for relatively reduced damage of substrates and equipment during bonding.

The present disclosure relates to assembling elastic laminates that may be used to make absorbent article components. Methods herein may include an anvil adapted to rotate about an axis of rotation, wherein first and second spreader mechanisms adjacent the anvil roll are axially and angularly displaced from each other with respect to the axis of rotation. During the assembly process, a substrate may be advanced in a machine direction onto the rotating anvil. The first spreader mechanism stretches a first elastic material in the cross direction, and the second spreader mechanism stretches a second elastic material in the cross direction. The stretched first and second elastic materials advance from the spreader mechanisms and onto the substrate on the anvil roll. The combined and elastic materials may then be ultrasonically bonded together on the anvil to form at least one elastic laminate.
