PROGRESSIVE FLOW-FORMING METHOD
A compression molding method for creating fine, features having desired fiber-alignment patterns involves creating a pressure gradient in a mold cavity during the soak phase of the compression-molding process. In the illustrative embodiment, the gradient is created by movement of a structure, and results in a flow of nearby fiber and melted resin. This alters local, preexisting, non-random fiber alignments. The process imparts geometries to a part (the bulging features) that are not otherwise present on the mold surface.
Method and apparatus of modular punch forming plates for alignment of a stringer for a vehicle
Methods and devices of fabricating a stringer for a vehicle. The stringer can be constructed from two charges that are formed together into the stringer. During fabricating, the ends of the charges can be formed in a die cavity. When the ends are misaligned in the die cavity, one of the charges can be moved in the die cavity to align the ends. The device used for fabricating the charges can include a punch with separate punch plates that move the ends of the charges into the die cavity. The punch plates can be separately moved to adjust the position of the charges and align the ends.
Method for manufacturing fiber-reinforced plastic molded body
Provided is a method for manufacturing a fiber-reinforced plastic molded body by which, when a molded article having a hollow part is being molded using a molding mold, it is possible to deform the peripheral surface area of a core by increasing the pressure inside the core without using pressurized gas or pressurized fluid. A group of particles and the like including a particle group and a core block is accommodated in a flexible bag to form a core. The particle group is composed of multiple rigid particles. The core is arranged inside a prepreg containing a resin and fibers, and the prepreg including the core is arranged inside a molding mold and is molded by applying pressure.
RESIN TRANSFER MOLDING SYSTEMS AND CONTROL LOGIC FOR MANUFACTURING FIBER-REINFORCED COMPOSITE PARTS
Presented are manufacturing control systems for fabricating composite-material structures, methods for making/operating such systems, and resin transfer molding techniques for ameliorating race-tracking effects in fiber-reinforced polymer panels. A method for forming a composite-material construction includes confirming, via a system electronic control unit (ECU), that a fiber-based preform is placed in a mold cavity and that opposing mold segments of the molding apparatus are sealed together. A filler, such as a compressible bladder, a cluster of spring-biased pins, or a spray-chopped fiber bed, is introduced into a void between the fiber-based preform and a tool face of one mold segment to thereby eliminate an unwanted resin race track. The system ECU commands a resin pump to inject resin through a primary gate of the molding apparatus and into the mold cavity to thereby impregnate the fiber-based preform with the resin. One or more vents operate to evacuate air from the mold.
METHOD FOR THE ADAPTIVE FILLING OF RIGID TOOL CAVITIES
A method for the production of stiffened components made of fiber-reinforced composite material using two rigid form tools which are suitable for covering the longer end sides of T-shaped preformed reinforcing fibers, using a folded hose core and inflation of the hose core so as to exert pressure on the end side of the preformed reinforcing fibers.
PREFORM SHAPING APPARATUS
According to one implementation, a preform shaping apparatus includes a rigid mold and a pressurizing jig. The rigid mold has a shape corresponding to a shape of a preform which has been shaped. The pressurizing jig presses an unshaped material of the preform to the rigid mold at different positions and different timings. Further, according to one implementation, a method of shaping a preform includes: producing the shaped preform by pressing an unshaped material of the preform to a rigid mold at different positions and different timings; and using a pressurizing jig for pressing the material. The rigid mold has a shape corresponding to a shape of the preform. The pressurizing jig is adapted to apply pressures on the material at the different positions and the different timings.
