Wrap-around airbag device

An airbag device for a vehicle including at least one airbag housing interface chamber that attaches to an airbag housing; at least one airbag cushion chamber downstream of the at least one interface chamber; an elbow that fluidly connects the housing interface chamber with the cushion chamber and configured so that it controllably regulates gas flow into the at least one airbag cushion chamber; the elbow having an internal configuration, which includes at least one opening that permits back and forth gas flow between the elbow and the at least one airbag cushion chamber, and which controls the directional deployment of the airbag cushion chamber so that upon deployment the downstream end of the cushion chamber exits an airbag housing outwardly in a first direction and then in at least one second direction, so that the direction of deployment of the cushion chamber changes in direction to thereby wrap at least partially around a structure of a vehicle of the vehicle and at least temporarily interpose the cushion chamber between any occupant and the vehicle structure.

[Problem] To provide a vehicle side airbag apparatus which can eliminate the operation of joining baffles sectioning the inside of a side airbag into three chambers, facilitate and simplify the assembly operation thereof, easily and skillfully manufacture the side airbag, and improve productivity. [Resolution Means] In the state in which a side airbag is folded and stored, each of first and second baffles 5, 6 is provided facing each other in the width direction of the vehicle such that two surfaces on both sides of a ridge line Q extending in the longitudinal direction of this baffle are able to at least partially overlap each other, the side airbag includes a baffle intersection which is formed by allowing the first baffle to cross the second baffle, and this baffle intersection is partially formed at a predetermined position of the ridge line of the second baffle, in addition to having a crossover opening 16 at which the first baffle penetrates through the second baffle.

To contribute to stabilizing the restraining of a head portion. When an air bag inflates and expands in a side airbag device for a vehicle, a rear bag portion accommodating an inflator inflates and expands earlier than and at a higher pressure than a front bag portion. The front bag portion, that is low pressure and inflates and expands later, can be supported by the rear bag portion that is high pressure, and the front bag portion does not shake greatly. Moreover, the flow of gas from the rear bag portion that is high pressure to the front bag portion that is low pressure can be regulated by the upper and lower communication ports formed in a tether. Due to the above, the expansion behavior of the front bag portion can be stabilized, which can therefore contribute to the restraining of the head portion by the front bag portion.

A vehicle side airbag device includes: an inflator for generating gas by activation; a bag body provided in a side portion of a seatback of a vehicle seat and configured to be inflated and deployed toward a vehicle front side relative to the side portion when the gas is supplied thereinside; and a partition portion partitioning the bag body into a front bag portion and a rear bag portion to be inflated at a higher pressure than the front bag portion and having a thicker inflation width in a vehicle width direction than that of the front bag portion, the partition portion being overlapping with a central part of a shoulder of a sitting occupant in an inflated and deployed state in a side view.

CURTAIN AIRBAG ASSEMBLY WITH STIFFENING CHAMBER

A curtain airbag assembly that includes one or more angled stiffening chambers and one or more standoff chambers. An angled stiffening chamber may be configured to support and retain an occupant within a vehicle during or after a vehicle collision. The angled stiffening chamber may include a plurality of extending portions and bent portions such that the angled stiffening chamber, when inflated, has an angled or bent configuration.

Structure of seat equipped with far-side airbag device

In a vehicle seat equipped with a far-side airbag device, an inner side frame is disposed inside a side part of a seat back that is a part on a center side in a vehicle width direction. An inflator, and a side airbag that inflates and deploys toward a vehicle front side when gas is supplied from the inflator housed inside, are mounted on an outer side in the vehicle width direction relative to the inner side frame. Here, a support part that extends farther toward the vehicle front side than a front end, in a vehicle front-rear direction, of an outer side frame provided inside a side part of the seat back that is a part on the outer side in the vehicle width direction, is disposed at a front end, in the vehicle front-rear direction, of the inner side frame.

Techniques for deploying vehicle airbag systems with primary and auxiliary airbags

Airbag systems for use in a vehicle that is operable in a manual-steering mode or an automated-steering mode are provided. In one embodiment, an airbag system includes a primary airbag installed in a dashboard of a vehicle. The primary airbag is configured to be deployed when a collision event is detected, and, when deployed, the primary airbag is configured to protect a person seated in a driver seat of the vehicle. the airbag system also includes an auxiliary airbag configured to be deployed when the collision event is detected. During operation of the vehicle in a manual-steering mode, the deployment of the auxiliary airbag is configured to reduce contact between the primary airbag and a steering wheel of the vehicle when the primary airbag is deployed from the dashboard.

An airbag apparatus in which an airbag is deployed while maintaining appropriate deployment pressure. A tether is tightened by deployment force of a sub-cushion, and pulls a hidden cushion disposed in a main cushion so that the hidden cushion is deployed, such that a volume in the main cushion is reduced by the hidden cushion, thereby maintaining deployment pressure of the main cushion.

Provided is an occupant's leg restraint device suitable for restraining the legs of an occupant when an automobile has an oblique collision or an offset barrier collision. The occupant's leg restraint device has an airbag and an inflator for supplying gas to the lower part of the airbag to inflate the airbag, and the airbag has a first panel on the occupant side and a second panel on the side opposite thereto. An upper part of the inside of the airbag is divided into small chambers by vertical separating panels that are joined to the first panel and the second panel and that extend vertically. In a state where the airbag has inflated, recessed portions having a depth of 20 to 40 mm are formed in the occupant-side surface of the airbag along the vertical separating panels.

Passive restraint system

A restraint system includes an instrument panel, a passenger airbag chamber supported by the instrument panel, and a secondary airbag chamber. The passenger airbag chamber is inflatable to an inflated position and in the inflated position includes a rear face spaced from the instrument panel and a side face extending from the rear face toward the instrument panel. The secondary airbag chamber is external to the passenger airbag and, in an inflated position, extends along the side face and the rear face of the passenger airbag chamber.
