A corrugated alternate displacement cushion may be formed from a corrugated cardboard sheet having cutout rows of cutout sections that are spaced in the transverse direction across the corrugated cardboard sheet and separated by corresponding lands. The cutout sections of adjacent cutout rows do not overlap in the transverse direction. When the corrugated cardboard sheet is folded up around transverse creases, inner and outer sides of the cutout sections may be covered by lands of other cutout rows such that air pockets defined by the cutout sections are formed within the corrugated alternate displacement cushion.

A sheet metal pallet assembly includes a deck and an undercarriage. The deck is reinforced about its outer edges by perimeter under-girding. The interior of the deck is further reinforced by one or more reinforcement ribs and interior longitudinal girding. The undercarriage is composed of left and right fork tube risers joined together by bridges. The fork tube risers are configured to receive the tines of a forklift truck. Each fork tube riser has inner and outer legs, each splayed at an angle. In some examples, the splay angle of the outer leg is greater than the splay angle of the inner leg, but in other examples the splays are equal. The ends of each fork tube riser may be folded over with a hem to improve strength and present a blunt edge. The undercarriage may be fabricated from a single monolithic piece of sheet metal or multiple pieces.

The pallet comprises at least one elongated support element (108) between opposite edge areas of the pallet and going via a lower portion of a foot section (107) that is between and distances away from the opposite edge areas of the pallet. The elongated support element is connected to the opposite edge areas of the pallet with connections (109, 110) for receiving tensile stress acting on the elongated support element. The tensile stress of the elongated support element is increased in response to downwards arching bending of the platform section. Thus, the elongated support element tends to prevent the bending of the platform section.

The underside includes pallet support leg attachment areas aligned with the grommet openings for receiving pallet support legs when configured as a pallet. Also, the underside includes dolly wheel attachment areas for receiving dolly wheels when configured as a dolly. The product support surface includes grommets inserted into the grommet openings. Each grommet includes an upper section that extends in height above the top deck to engage an underside of the pallet support legs from an identical platform stacked thereon when configured as a pallet. Also, the product support surface includes dolly wheel receiving areas aligned with the dolly wheel wells on the underside, and engage the dolly wheels from an identical platform stacked thereon when configured as a dolly.
