A protective garment comprising a form-fitting, stretchable inner garment for covering part of a body of a wearer, the inner garment including a plurality of cushioning pads attached thereto with portions of the inner garment being free of the cushioning pads, and an outer shell partially overlying the inner garment, the outer shell including a plurality of flexibly interconnected protective pads cooperating with the cushioning pads to protect at least a major pan of the portion of the body, the protective pads being more rigid that the cushioning pads, and the outer shell being separable from the inner garment.

A load-bearing garment, such as a vest, is provided having stretchable web platform on an outside surface, such as between front and back panels of the vest. The stretchable web platform includes stretchable bands that extend horizontally, and vertical webbing extending between multiple horizontal bands. Additional embodiments are directed to a mounting system in a plate carrier for a plate. Still further embodiments are directed to a handle and strap system for a vest or other garment that permits a quick rescue of a person wearing the vest.

The sleeve can be joined with the forearm guard and an upper end of the biceps guard, with a lower end of the biceps guard being free from attachment to the sleeve to facilitate radioulnar rotation of the forearm guard and thus the forearm of the wearer. The arm guard can include a low profile elbow cap that is integral with the forearm guard, and generally free floating within and joined with the forearm guard, rather than being a separate component from the forearm guard.

The first layer comprises a first foam having a first density. The first layer defines a first plurality of voids that extend through the first layer at a first plurality of positions. The second layer has a second body-facing surface positioned adjacent the first outer surface of the first layer and a second outer surface opposite the second body-facing surface. The second layer comprises a second foam having a second density that is different than the first density. The second layer defines a second plurality of voids that extend through the second layer at a second plurality of positions. Portions of the first outer surface of the first layer are visible through the second plurality of voids of the second layer.
