To help such people, a device without adding much inconvenience in normal life is disclosed. The device is able to detect dangerous conditions and automatically deploy airbags when needed to prevent or mitigate potential bodily injuries.

According to the invention the control unit (19) comprises storing means (25) containing at least two different setup parameter sets and/or firmwares (29) of the control unit (19) for controlling the activation of the inflator unit (14); the control unit (19) being further provided with selecting means (31) for selecting one of the said at least two different setup parameter sets and/or firmwares (29). The invention also relates to a method for adjusting the operational modes of the inflatable protective device (11) of the garment (10).

A protective mechanism is selected from the plurality of protective mechanisms based on the identified situational state and the determined risk-level. The actuator is controlled to deploy the selected protective mechanism to mitigate injury to the user from the component of the HMD device, based on the identified situational state and the determined risk-level.

Embodiments of the present garment address this whilst also providing garments which include integrated protective elements targeting specific body regions where subset of these protective elements are either configurable to the user by virtue of being inflatable or provide additional functionality such as heating. Further, the integration of sensors and electronics allows data acquisition, alarms, closed-loop feedback of the heating/inflation etc.
