Vehicle occupant protection device

A side air bag device restraining an occupant at the early stage of the deployment. A seat back has a side support part bulging in a vehicle forward direction at a side part in a vehicle width direction. A seat frame of the seat is provided inside the seat. The side air bag device has an air bag deploying to restrain an occupant and an inflator supplying inflating gas. A side frame part of the seat frame is inside the side support part, and the side air bag device is on an outer side of the side frame. The air bag has a main chamber deploying forward and to an outer side of the side support part and a sub-chamber deploying inside the side support part. The sub-chamber deploys further toward a forward side than a vehicle forward edge of the side frame, at least a front part of the side support part protrudes and deforms toward an occupant side.

SIDE AIRBAG DEVICE

The side airbag device includes an inflator and a side airbag that is stored in a folded state in a side portion of a seatback of a vehicle seat and is inflatable and deployable in a space between a vehicle sidewall and a side portion of an occupant. The side airbag includes an outer bag and an inner bag. The inner bag houses the inflator and is disposed at a rear portion of the outer bag along an extending direction of the seatback. The outer bag is provided with a vent hole configured to communicate with an outside. The inner bag is provided with a gas circulating hole configured to communicate with the outer bag. The gas circulating hole is disposed at a position to be blocked by the outer bag when the side airbag in an inflated and deployed state is pressed between the occupant and the vehicle sidewall.

It is provided a gas bag for a vehicle occupant restraint system of a motor vehicle, comprising at least one first inflatable chamber configured for the protection of the head of a vehicle occupant; at least one second inflatable chamber configured for the protection of a shoulder and/or thorax region of the vehicle occupant, wherein the gas bag is to be arranged in or on a side of a vehicle seat facing the vehicle interior space. The first and the second chamber are rotatable relative to each other in the inflated condition of the gas bag.

An airbag assembly according to the present disclosure includes an elongated cushion and a restraint. The elongated cushion is configured to deploy from an interior side wall of a vehicle into a passenger compartment of the vehicle to resist upward motion of a leg of an occupant of the vehicle. The restraint is configured to prevent the elongated cushion from rotating upward and toward the side wall when the leg of the occupant contacts an underside surface of the elongated cushion.

Frontal airbag assemblies for reducing rotational velocity of a head of an occupant

Airbag assemblies are disclosed that can reduce rotational velocity of an occupant's head during a collision event and thereby mitigate traumatic brain injury/head injury to an occupant. An airbag includes a pair of lobes or protrusions to deploy and extend from the rear face of the airbag on either side of the occupant's head to limit rotation of the head. A pair of vertical tethers within an interior of the airbag configure the lobes and contour the rear face to form one or more low fabric tension zones or bubbles. The lobes maintain high fabric tension, similar to a pressurization of a main inflatable chamber of the airbag.

In the airbag device 100, the inside base fabric 124 has lower tension than the outside base fabric 122 and restrains the occupant 134.

A side airbag device 100 includes: a main bag 120, is built in a seat of a vehicle, and inflates and deploys toward a side of an occupant and a vehicle front side; an inner bag 122 which is formed in a bag shape independent of the main bag 120, and inflates and deploys on a vehicle rear side inside the main bag 120. An inflator 110 provided inside the inner bag 122 to supply gas; and a tension member 126 which spans between the vehicle front side and the vehicle rear side inside the inner bag 122 and is tensioned as the inner bag 122 inflates and deploys. The length of the inner bag 122 in the front-back direction of the vehicle at inflation is restricted by the tension member 126 to a predetermined range, and the inner bag therefore inflates in a vehicle width direction and pushes and spreads the vehicle rear side of the main bag 120 from the inside of the main bag 120 to both sides in the vehicle width direction.
