Occupant protection device

An occupant protection device includes an airbag which is deployed and inflated with an amount of protrusion from a storage position to a rear side in an inflation completed state in a large protrusion amount mode and a small protrusion amount mode, and the airbag includes a bag body and a tether. The tether is connected to a length adjustment unit. The bag body has a tubular inflation portion curved in a substantially U shape from the storage position toward the tether connection portion. A shape of the bag body in the large protrusion amount mode is defined such that the tether connection portion is further moved rearward with respect to the inlet port on the inner peripheral surface side, as compared with the case of the small protrusion amount mode.

ROOF MOUNTED AIRBAG

A roof mounted airbag is proposed. The roof mounted airbag includes: an airbag cushion having an upper portion fixed to a roof of a vehicle and configured to be expanded downward when gas is supplied therein; a vent hole formed on the airbag cushion, and configured to discharge the gas in the airbag cushion to the outside of the airbag cushion during opening of the vent hole; and a closing tether having a first end fixed to the roof of the vehicle, and a second end connected to the vent hole to close the vent hole when tension is applied thereto.

Tether release for an automotive safety device

An actuator assembly that includes an actuator device. The actuator device includes a tubular housing with a first end and a second end, the tubular housing defining a storage chamber containing a pyrotechnic material to produce gas. At least one electrical connection is coupled to the first end, the electrical connection in reaction initiating communication with the pyrotechnic material. An actuator housing that partially encompasses the tubular housing, wherein an outer surface of the actuator housing comprises a hexagon shaped portion that extends along a longitudinal direction of the actuator housing. An assembly housing at least partially encompasses the actuator device, wherein an inner surface of the assembly housing comprises an engaging surface portion that extends along a longitudinal direction of the assembly housing that corresponds to and slidably engages with the hexagon shaped portion of the actuator housing.

The invention relates to an airbag module (16) of a vehicle safety system as well as to a method of mounting an actuator assembly (10) for activating a tensile means (12) on a module casing (14) of the airbag module (16), comprising the following steps: a) the tensile means (12) is connected to the actuator assembly (10) and is fixed to a mounting element (18) together with the actuator assembly (10) so that the tensile means (12), the actuator assembly (10) and the mounting element (18) constitute a pre-mounted unit (20); the pre-mounted unit (20) is arranged inside the module casing (14) and is fastened to the module casing (14) by means of the mounting element (18).

Airbag device

An airbag device includes an airbag formed with a discharge portion. The discharge portion includes: an opening portion; a tack portion around the opening portion; and a regulating belt portion disposed on a peripheral edge of the opening portion to regulate opening and closing of the opening portion. When the inflation of the airbag is completed, the tack portion is maintained in a folded state by the regulating belt portion due to tension acting on the regulation belt portion, so that a closed state of the opening portion is capable of being maintained, and when the tension does not act on the regulating belt portion, the folded state is released and the opening portion is brought into an open state.

Selectively inflatable airbag side chambers

An assembly includes a vehicle seat. The assembly includes an airbag supported by the vehicle seat and inflatable to an inflated position. The airbag includes a main chamber, a first side chamber, and second side chamber spaced downwardly from the first side chamber. The assembly includes a computer including a processor and a memory storing instructions executable by the processor to determine a size of an occupant seated in the vehicle seat and, based on the size of the occupant, selectively inflate one of the first side chamber from an uninflated position to an inflated position or the second side chamber from an uninflated position to an inflated position.
