NOVEL METAL HYDRIDES AND THEIR USE IN HYDROGEN STORAGE APPLICATIONS
20220017364 · 2022-01-20 ·

This disclosure relates to novel metal hydrides, processes for their preparation, and their use in hydrogen storage applications.

Hydrided moderators for nuclear reactors

High temperature moderators for nuclear reactors and processes for their production are disclosed. The moderators include at least one hydrided metal and/or hydride metal allow, such as yttrium hydride, thorium hydride, yttrium-cerium hydride, yttrium-gadolinium hydride, yttrium calcium hydride, cerium hydride, etc. Such metal hydrides and/or hydride alloys may have high thermal stability, a relatively low thermal neutron absorption cross section, the ability to retain hydrogen over a large temperature range, and have good mechanical properties. Such moderators may induce spectral shift in reactors which, in turn, magnifies the Doppler reactivity temperature coefficient. Such moderators to thermalize neutrons may also enhance fuel utilization and cost-effectiveness of the reactor while keeping the core portable.

PALLADIUM HYDRIDE HAVING HCP CRYSTAL STRUCTURE AND PREPARATION METHOD THEREOF

Provided is a method of preparing palladium hydride nanoparticles having a hcp crystal structure.

According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method includes: (a) preparing a liquid cell containing a palladium precursor solution; (b) applying electron beams to the palladium precursor solution contained in the liquid cell; and (c) generating palladium hydride nanoparticles having the hcp crystal structure in the palladium precursor solution.

Metal Hydride Nanoinks

Metal hydride nanoparticle inks provide an alternative to traditional metal inks. Metal hydride nanoinks can be printed by aerosol jet printing and cured at elevated temperatures to provide conductive patterns. As an example, printed patterns of titanium hydride nanoink on polyimide and cured by pulsed photonic curing were found to exhibit electrical conductivity, with a sheet resistance on the order of ˜150 Ω/□.
