Fixed biofilm anaerobic-aerobic combined reactor for treating wastewater

The present invention concerns a biological reactor used in the field of sanitation for the treatment of sewage and industrial wastewater. The solution proposed in this invention is the coupling of two different treatment processes (anaerobic and aerobic) in the same fixed bed reactor. The invention aims to allow for the construction of plants for the treatment of sewage or very compact industrial effluents, where it is possible to achieve high treatment efficiencies with a small implantation area. In addition, due to the combination of the anaerobic and aerobic processes in fixed beds in the same reactor, the system consumes less energy for aeration and generates a smaller amount of sludge, considerably reducing the operating costs of the treatment plant.

Algal harvesting and water filtration

Systems for algae-based water filtration and algae harvesting are described herein. A flow-way comprises a channel and a divider positioned within the channel that separates the channel into sub-channels. The flow-way further includes an algal growth that grows on a sidewall of the channel and/or the divider. The algal growth can be established in the flow-way by positioning a pre-seeded mesh element within the channel, the pre-seeded mesh element having an algae culture growing thereon prior to positioning the pre-seeded mesh within the channel. A harvesting system comprises a hinged container that includes a straining screen. The hinged container is positioned downstream from a flow-way and receives water from the flow-way. Biomass in the water is strained by and accumulates on the screen. Weight of the accumulated biomass causes the hinged container to tip and deposit the accumulated biomass in a second container.

Grey water treatment systems and methods of treating grey water

A grey water treatment system includes a first tank configured to receive grey water via a grey water supply conduit and that comprises an overflow, a second tank configured to store grey water, and at least one transfer conduit configured to at least transfer grey water between the first tank and the second tank. A control is configured to maintain a water level in said first tank sufficiently close to the overflow to allow floating contaminants to pass over the overflow. A method of treating grey water includes: receiving grey water in a first tank of a grey water treatment system; transferring grey water via at least one transfer conduit between the first tank and a second tank of said treatment system; and controlling a water level in said first tank sufficiently close to an overflow of said first tank to allow floating contaminants to pass over the overflow.
