Bismuth-based chloride-storage electrodes

Bismuth-based, chloride-storage electrodes and rechargeable electrochemical cells incorporating the chloride-storage electrodes are provided. Also provided are methods for making the electrodes and methods for using the electrochemical cells to remove chloride ions from a sample. The chloride-storage electrodes, which are composed of bismuth metal, can store chloride ions in their bulk by forming BiOCl via an oxidation reaction with bismuth in the presence of an oxygen source.

Electrolytic biocide-generating unit

The present disclosure relates to a biocide-generating device for outputting a biocide to a water system. The biocide-generating device includes a power circuit positioned within a housing that defines an electrolytic cell of the biocide-generating device.

DEVICE FOR TREATING ALGAE IN WATERS OF INTEREST USING HIGH-VOLTAGE MICRO PULSE DISCHARGE

An algae treatment device of the present invention is installed in a ship or a barge and selectively destroys only the air-sacs of algae by discharging high-voltage micro pulses into waters of interest in which green tide or red tide has occurred. Thus, the algae treatment device can efficiently solve green tide or red tide by treating algae using a minimal amount of chemicals, or none at all.

Liquid treatment apparatus

A liquid treatment apparatus includes a water pump and a plasma jet generating device. A liquid inlet of the water pump is immersed in a liquid. A liquid outlet of the water pump is configured to eject the liquid from the liquid inlet out of the water pump without artificial bubbles in the liquid. A gas inlet of the plasma jet generating device is configured to be located out of the liquid. A pair of electrodes of the plasma jet generating device is configured to generate plasma jet by the gas from the gas inlet. The plasma jet outlet is configured to be immersed in the liquid and in proximity to the liquid outlet of the water pump so that the gas is automatically entrained into the gas inlet of the plasma jet generating device when the liquid is ejected out from the liquid outlet.

METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING WATER SYSTEM FOULING

A system in which water flowing through the system flows in proximity to an ion generation device and to a UV radiation source combines silver photochemistry principles, heavy metal toxicity, and UV radiation to form a highly effective combined water disinfection process. Using ion generation and UV irradiation, the system synergistically improves the disinfection and bactericidal effects of ion generation or UV radiation working individually by making ion-exposed microorganisms more susceptible and less resistant to the bactericidal effects of UV radiation. The UV radiation source uses a manual wiping system to remove buildup that is a result of water supply minerals attaching to quartz sleeves used within the UV radiation source. The present invention introduces a device or other obstructive structure that creates a flow pattern that provides additional “wiping” of the quartz sleeves on a continual basis in conjunction with manual wiping.
