METHOD OF PREPARING CARBONACEOUS MATERIAL CAPABLE OF FIXING ARSENIC AND APPLICATION THEREOF
20220340462 · 2022-10-27 ·

The present disclosure provides a method of preparing a carbonaceous material capable of fixing arsenic and an application thereof. Through biomass pretreatment, biomass pyrolysis and arsenite fixation, a biochar activated by potassium carbonate and an arsenic-containing wastewater containing sulfur-containing substances are mixed and deoxidized, and an anaerobic culture is carried out, to fix arsenic by the biochar activated by potassium carbonate. The present disclosure solves the problems that arsenic is released from the soil and groundwater under anaerobic conditions, the ability of conventional passivatingagents to fix arsenic under anaerobic conditions is weakened, and the conventional carbonaceous materials not only cannot fix arsenic, but also accelerate the release of anaerobic arsenic.

In-situ resource utilization-derived water purification and hydrogen and oxygen production

This disclosure provides an integrated system and method for producing purified water, hydrogen, and oxygen from contaminated water. The contaminated water may be derived from regolith-based resources on the moon, Mars, near-Earth asteroids, or other destination in outer space. The integrated system and method utilize a cold trap to receive the contaminated water in a vapor phase and selectively freeze out water from one or more volatiles. A heat source increases temperature in the cold trap to vaporize the frozen contaminated water to produce a gas stream of water vapor and volatiles. A chemical scrubber may remove one or more volatiles. The integrated system and method utilize ionomer membrane technology to separate the water vapor from remaining volatiles. The water vapor is delivered for crew use or delivered to an electrolyzer to produce hydrogen and oxygen.

Sequestering agents, kits therefor, and methods of using sequestering agents and kits therefor

Provided are sequestering agents for sequestering non-water moieties from an aqueous solution. The sequestering agents may comprise a detergent; and a polymer operable to stabilize formation of a detergent micelle thereby causing the detergent and polymer to self-assemble into a nanonet upon exposure to the aqueous solution. Also provided are kits therefore and methods for use of the sequestering agents and kits.

Wastewater processing

A wastewater collection tank feeds a vaporizing unit through an inlet near the unit's top. A burner produces hot air, which a blower blows through a blower tube that passes through the upper portion of the unit to the bottom portion of the unit. A substrate through which air can pass extends across the unit between the bottom of the blower tube and the wastewater inlet. The hot air moving upward through the unit heats the falling wastewater, a substantial portion of which is vaporized therefrom. The vapor is vented from the top of the unit. Un-vaporized wastewater collects at the bottom of the unit and is recycled through the system with raw wastewater in the collection tank.

TREATED GEOTHERMAL BRINE COMPOSITIONS WITH REDUCED CONCENTRATION OF SILICA, IRON AND LITHIUM
20230085171 · 2023-03-16 · ·

This invention relates to treated geothermal brine compositions containing reduced concentrations of lithium, iron and silica compared to the untreated brines. Exemplary compositions contain concentration of lithium ranges from 0 to 200 mg/kg, concentration of silica ranges from 0 to 30 mg/kg, concentration of iron ranges from 0 to 300 mg/kg. Exemplary compositions also contain reduced concentrations of elements like arsenic, barium, and lead.

Ground water contamination remediation using a man-made surface water feature

A ground water contamination remediation process includes the steps of identifying a source and location of land-based ground water contamination and excavating the soil above and within the location of the contamination to create a void. The width and depth of the void is increased to a predetermined size until the contaminated ground water is exposed creating a man-made treatment lake by allowing the contaminated ground water to partially fill the void. In one embodiment, the water in the treatment lake is aerated to reduce the amounts of hydrogen sulfide, methane, and biodegradable compounds in the contaminated water. In another embodiment, an adsorbent material is added to the treatment lake so to isolate per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The adsorbent material is applied to or mixed into PFAS contaminated water, PFAS is adsorbed, and the solid adsorbent materials settle to the bottom of the lake for subsequent management or removal.
