Starch settling recovery system
This invention describes the equipment and a method to recover starch from a dilute starch stream produced by manufacturing facilities which process the starch-containing materials, such as potato and corn. The process comprises feeding a dilute aqueous slurry of less than about 5% by weight starch to a classifier to concentrate the slurry by a factor of at least 5 and produce a concentrated slurry, wherein the classifier has at least one overflow exit and at least one underflow exit; drawing off the overflow and underflow from the classifier; feeding the concentrated slurry from the underflow exit of the classifier into a settling tank having at least one underflow exit and at least one overflow exit to produce an underflow layer of starch with a concentration of at least 40% starch proximate to the underflow exit and an aqueous overflow with a concentration of less than about 5% by weight starch proximate to the overflow exit; drawing off the overflow from the tank; and opening a orifice at the underflow exit of the tank to allow the distal most fraction of the underflow to exit the tank.
Extrusion system and method for separating soil from water
An extrusion system for separating soil entrained in wash water, e.g. from harvesting tuberous produce, includes a settling tank configured to receive a flow of soiled water, to allow soil to settle by gravity, and to allow clarified water collection at the top. A diffuser suspended within the tank converts the flow of soiled water into multiple transverse flows to avoid churning the settled soil. A sensor detects the level of settled soil reaching a predetermined setpoint, and in response the system actuates an auger and opens a pinch valve to force concentrated soil from the bottom of the settling tank.
SCALE INHIBITOR METHODS AND COMPOSITIONS
A method of scale inhibition treatment of a water system comprising introducing an aqueous scale inhibiting composition into the water system wherein the aqueous scale inhibiting composition comprises a carboxylated hyperbranched polyglycerol.
System and membrane for wastewater-generated energy and gas
Systems and methods for producing and extracting a gas from a wastewater fluid including multiple sheets or layers that form a composite membrane. The composite membrane includes a sandwich structure in which a dry matrix layer is surrounded by a first layer including a first immobilized bacteria and a second layer including a second immobilized bacteria. The first immobilized bacteria and the second immobilized bacteria can be configured to produce a gas from one or more compounds in a wastewater fluid. The dry matrix layer can be configured to receive the gas from the first and second layers, and the gas can be extracted from the membrane. The hydrophobic coatings can be disposed between the dry matrix layer and one or both of the first and second layers. An adhesive interface can be disposed between the dry matrix layer and one or both of the first and second layers.
Method and System for Cultivation and Processing of Sugar Beets
A method for cultivation and processing of sugar beets the includes steps of: providing the sugar beets and/or sugar beet seedlings in a first step; supplying the sugar beets and/or the sugar beet seedlings with a nutrient solution during growth in a second step; harvesting at least partially fully grown sugar beets in a third step; processing the harvested sugar beets in a sugar production plant in order to extract sugar from the sugar beets in a fourth step; the nutrient solution used in the second step is at least partially obtained by recovering water in the fourth step which is recycled in the second step.
NUTRIENTS REMOVAL VIA SIMULTANEOUS NITRIFICATION AND DENITRIFICATION COUPLING WITH PHOSPHATE ACCUMULATION
The present invention relates to methods for water treatment. in particular using a novel Thauera species that is capable of removing nitrogen via simultaneous nitrification and denitrification. The novel Thauera species may be further capable of phosphate accumulation in the cells. The invention also relates to an isolated Thauera sp. strain SND5 (accession number: CGMCC 21549). The invention further relates to reactors for use in carrying out the methods as described herein and bioprocesses that are carried out using said reactor.
Apparatus and method for processing final effluent and palm by-products discharged from palm oil milling process
The present invention is to produce fuel and feed resources by rapidly separating solid contents from final effluent and palm by-products which are discharged from the palm oil milling process, oxidizing organics from the generated liquid phase contents through water treatment so as to use the result as a liquid fertilizer, and carrying out continuous concentration and dehydration of the separated solid contents and then mixing the result with palm oil decanter cake and the like.
PROCESS AND SYSTEM FOR REMOVING AMMONIUM FROM WASTEWATER
Methods, systems, and techniques for removing ammonium from ammonia-containing water involve using a stack that has alternating product chambers and concentrate chambers for receiving ammonia-containing water and an acidic solution, respectively, with the chambers being bounded by alternating cation exchange membranes and proton permselective cation exchange membranes. Ammonium moves from the product chambers to the concentrate chambers across the CEMs and protons move from the concentrate chambers to the product chambers across the pCEMs when the stack is in use. An electrolyzer may also be used to convert the ammonium in the concentrate chambers into nitrogen.
Method and devices for de-emulsifying and complexing organic compounds in emulsions
The invention relates to a method for aggregating and separating an organic material mixture which is provided in a dissolved form in an aqueous emulsion. The method is characterized by the following steps: a) providing an aqueous emulsion with organic compounds which are provided in the emulsion in a dissolved form, said organic compounds being carboxylic acids, phospholipids, glycolipids, glyceroglycolipids, phenols, sterols, chlorophyll, and/or sinapines, b) mixing the emulsion from step a) with an aqueous solution containing copper(II) ions and/or calcium ions until an aggregate formation is achieved, and c) separating the aggregates from step b) by means of a sedimentation, filtration, or centrifugation process after achieving an aggregated phase of the organic compounds from step b).
NOVEL SOLID-STATE ANAEROBIC DIGESTION METHOD
The invention relates to a novel dry-state anaerobic digestion method comprising pretreatment of the input with an additive selected from among zeolite, clay, pozzolan and biochar.
