APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR DECHLORINATION OF DISCHARGE WATER
20200198990 · 2020-06-25 ·

A system and method for conditioning water is provided. A fluid flow sensor senses a flow of untreated discharge water passing through a water discharge drain line. The sensor generates one of a first sensor signal indicating a flow of the untreated discharge water and a second sensor signal indicating an absence of the flow of the untreated discharge water. A water conditioning controller transmits a first actuation signal to a conditioning agent pump when the first sensor signal is received, wherein a portion of a conditioning agent residing in a conditioning agent reservoir is pumped into the water discharge drain line to mix with the flow of untreated discharge water, and transmits a second actuation signal to the conditioning agent pump when the second sensor signal is received so that the portion of the conditioning agent is not pumped from the conditioning agent reservoir.

A ballast water treatment method includes: a step of supplying a sterilizing component to a ballast pipe while taking ballast water into a ballast tank through the ballast pipe; a first measurement step of measuring the concentration of the sterilizing component in the ballast water after the sterilizing component is supplied; a circulation step of returning the ballast water stored in the ballast tank to the ballast pipe through a circulation pipe; a second measurement step of measuring the concentration of the sterilizing component contained in the ballast water returned to the ballast pipe; and a step of supplying the sterilizing component to the ballast pipe 2 when the concentration of the sterilizing component measured in the second measurement step is less than 0.2 times the concentration of the sterilizing component measured in the first measurement step. In the first supply step, the sterilizing component is supplied to the ballast pipe 2 such that the concentration of the sterilizing component measured in the first measurement step becomes 6 mg/L or more.

System and method to improve control of conductivity, free residual chlorine, level, andpH in large cooling towers
20200172409 · 2020-06-04 ·

A system and method are disclosed which significantly improves the control of conductivity, concentration of free residual chlorine, basin level, and pH in forced-draft open recirculating cooling towers, with a basin capacity of 750,000 gallons of water or more. Conductivity, free residual chlorine, basin level, and pH are each controlled by a programmable PID controller operating in a sampled-data environment where the set point is a continuously updated rate-of-change set value for conductivity, free residual chlorine, basin level, and pH based on a near-time prior manipulated value. Programmable PID controller outputs to each control element a manipulated value to bring the rate-of-change of the process value equal to the rate-of-change of the set value.

Ballast water treatment device and ballast water treatment method

A ballast water treatment device includes an oxidant supply amount control device in which a storage unit stores a relationship between an absorbance of a raw water for a ballast and a dissolved organic carbon concentration thereof and another relationship between the dissolved concentration and a residual oxidant concentration required after a predetermined time from an oxidant supply, to kill organisms and to suppress their regrowth in the ballast. A calculation unit derives the required residual oxidant concentration corresponding to the absorbance measured by a meter by referring to the relationships and calculates a target oxidant supply amount using the required residual oxidant concentration. For the target, a control unit controls an oxidant supply device.
