Operating a machine system for co-production of electrical power and filtered potable water includes operating an electrical generator by way of rotation of an engine output shaft to produce electrical power, and collecting water condensed from cooled treated exhaust from the engine for delivery to an outgoing water conduit. Operating the machine system further includes supplying electrical power produced by the electrical generator to an in situ electrical load, and to at least one ex situ electrical load such as a power grid. The in situ electrical load is produced by at least one of an exhaust conveyance device, an air conveyance device, or a water conveyance device in a water subsystem.
Switchable system for high-salinity brine desalination and fractional precipitation
A saline feed stream flows into a liquid-liquid extraction system; and a volatile organic solvent flows through a main compressor. The compressed volatile organic solvent then flows through a solvent regenerator, which can be a heat exchanger or a combination of a vaporization device and a condenser, to cool the volatile organic solvent. The cooled volatile organic solvent in liquid phase then flows into the liquid-liquid extraction system, where the saline feed stream contacts the volatile organic solvent to selectively extract water from the saline feed stream into the volatile organic solvent, producing a concentrated brine and an organic-rich mixture of water and the volatile organic solvent. The organic-rich mixture flows from the liquid-liquid extraction system into the solvent regenerator, where the organic-rich mixture is heated to produce an organic-rich vapor and desalinated water; and the organic-rich vapor is recycled as volatile organic solvent back into the liquid-liquid extraction system.
Reverse osmosis unit
An energy recovery system for use in a reverse osmosis system is provided. The energy recovery system has a pair of double headed pistons that reciprocate to pressurize unfiltered water into a reverse osmosis filtration unit. High pressure wastewater from the reverse osmosis filtration unit is used in conjunction with a pump to pressurize the unfiltered water that is pumped to the reverse osmosis filtration unit.
Two-Stage Biogas Production System for Anaerobic Digesters
A multi-stage system comprising a digester, a bioreactor, a scrubber, a biofilter, and a membrane filter extracts and purifies biogas from a wastewater feed. The digester separates raw biogas from wastewater, the wastewater is then purified with a three-stage bacterial process in a bioreactor. The scrubber receives raw biogas from the digester under pressure, dissolving waste gases and purifying the methane, which can be further condensed and purified in the membrane filter. The bioreactor receives waste gases from the scrubber and membrane filter, with the ammonia portion of the waste gases rising through water from the bioreactor and being converted by annamox bacteria into nitrogen gas. The multiply recycled gas and water feeds produce a biogas having high purity and reduced atmospheric emissions of waste gases.

An anode, a flow cell including the anode, and a method for electrocatalytic treatment of bio-oil and/or wastewater are disclosed. The anode comprises RuO.sub.2 particles on a titanium support. The method includes flowing a process stream through the flow cell in the absence of added hydrogen, at a temperature of 0° C. to 50° C. and atmospheric pressure, and applying a potential across the flow cell such that the anode is positive with respect to the cathode, thereby electrocatalytically oxidizing compounds in the process stream to produce a treated process stream at the anode and generating hydrogen gas as a byproduct at the cathode.
