Some implementations of the present disclosure prevent, reduce or at least slow equipment fouling using passivation as a treatment prior to contacting metallic components with hydrocarbon containing fluid, that is, an environment where fouling occurs. For example, one implementation includes a method of passivating heat exchangers in a SAGD process or system using the compositions and compounds of the present disclosure. The composition may be applied to a component prior to its first inclusion in an online system or following placing the system offline for maintenance. The composition may be used to treat metallic equipment surface(s), for example, via contacting them with a suspension or solution of the composition described herein, prior placing the system online. The method may further include treatment of the process fluid, for example, via injection or batch treatment of the composition with the compositions described herein into the process fluid.

USE OF A CHLORINE DIOXIDE PRECURSOR FOR CONTROLLING ION METABOLISM OF BACTERIA IN COOLING WATER SYSTEMS

A method of reducing activity of sulfur and/or nitrogen metabolizing bacteria is provided. The method includes adding a composition of an alkali metal salt of chlorite and/or an alkali metal salt of chlorate and hydrogen peroxide to process water of a cooling tower and increasing a concentration of the composition from about 0 ppm to about 300 ppm in about 1 to about 100 minutes. The method results in significant savings of caustic and reduces sulfur and/or nitrogen metabolizing bacteria in the process water.

WATER TREATMENT APPARATUS PRODUCING NO HARMFUL SUBSTANCES
20170341957 · 2017-11-30 ·

Disclosed is a water treatment apparatus including a pipe. Elements disposed in the pipe are respectively made of lead-free brass and nontoxic ultra high molecular weight polyethylene instead of brass and plastic polyethylene that are conventionally used materials. Therefore, when the elements come into contact with water, neither heavy metals, such as lead (Pb), nor organic and inorganic substances harmful to the human body are produced.

Filtration membrane and methods of use and manufacture thereof

A filtration membrane is provided. It comprises a porous support substrate and a porous active layer on top of the support substrate, wherein the active layer is formed of a network of interconnected, randomly arranged ceramic splats with ceramic particles occupying interstices between the splats, and wherein free spaces between the particles define a network of interconnected pores extending through the thickness of the active layer. There are also provided a method of filtering a feed using the membrane and a method of manufacturing the membrane by suspension plasma spraying.

WATER TREATMENT METHOD, WATER TREATMENT DEVICE AND SLIME INHIBITOR FOR MEMBRANES
20230174399 · 2023-06-08 · ·

The present application provides a water treatment method, a water treatment device, and a slime inhibitor for membranes that are capable of, in water treatment using a separation membrane and a reverse osmosis membrane in the subsequent stage, inhibiting the generation of a slime both in the separation membrane and in the reverse osmosis membrane by a simple method. The water treatment method includes adding an iodine-based oxidizer to water to be treated, subjecting the water to be treated obtained during the adding of the iodine-based oxidizer to filtration with the separation membrane, and causing filtrated water obtained during the filtration to be separated with the reverse osmosis membrane into permeated water and concentrated water.

Systems and methods for controlling evaporative fluid loss
11261110 · 2022-03-01 ·

A system for reducing evaporative cooling water losses using an electric and magnetic field inducing device is disclosed. The device influences a liquid's properties including evaporation rate, diffusion, vapor, heat transfer rate, and/or fluid properties. The device comprises a malleable core with notches and electrically conductive windings wrapped around the flexible core around the notches. An insulative coating isolates the windings from the core. The device is pliable and is wrapped and/or attached around a conduit (e.g., a makeup line or pipe or a recirculating line or pipe of an evaporative cooling tower) with flowing fluid and current is passed through the windings to treat the fluid.

ADAPTIVE CATALYTIC TECHNOLOGY WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM
20170313611 · 2017-11-02 · ·

This Adaptive Catalytic Technology (ACT) water treatment invention uses a series of integrated sequential modular advanced technologies to treat and eliminate or reduce suspended solids, hardness, heavy metals, organic compounds and microorganisms and to provide good tasting chlorine-free sanitized drinking water. The advanced technologies used herein are specifically designed to provide synergistic benefits that minimizes power consumption while improving the overall treatment effectiveness, making it possible to provide a cost effective and sustainable ACT water treatment for point of use drinking water supply for remote or developing areas, as well as residential, commercial, and industrial applications. The advanced technologies employed are environmentally friendly and safe. Specifically, the ACT water treatment invention does not require hazardous chemicals that need special handling to operate or maintain and it does not produce a waste stream or generates disinfection by-products (DBPs), such as, trihalomethanes (THMs) or haloacetic acids (HAAs).

Chemical free and energy efficient desalination system

A desalination system (100) having an intake unit (110) providing seawater to a pre-treatment unit (120) connected to a reverse osmosis (RO) desalination unit (130) and a post treatment unit (150). The desalination system (100) is configured to operate without any external addition of chemicals to simplify logistics and regulation concerns. The units of the system are configured to prevent biofouling, scaling and corrosion by mechanical and biological means including high flow speeds, biological flocculation of colloids, and making the water entering the RO units inhospitable to bacteria and other organisms that cause biofouling, hence preventing their settlement and removing them with the brine. Recovery rate is lowered and energy is recovered to increase the energetic efficiency and minerals that are added to the product water are taken from the brine.

Electrically conducting reverse osmosis membranes

The disclosure provides composite membranes for use in water purification and filtration.
