METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR MANUFACTURING A GLASS RIBBON
A glass manufacturing apparatus includes a forming vessel including a first end and a second end. The first end includes a vessel surface defining a recess. The glass manufacturing apparatus includes a compression block positioned within the recess and including a first surface and a contact surface that contacts the vessel surface. The compression block applies a force to the forming vessel. The first surface includes a non-planar shape. The glass manufacturing apparatus includes a support apparatus including a support surface supporting the compression block. The support surface is in contact with a portion of the first surface.
Laminate article having a non-glass core and glass envelope and methods thereof
A laminate sheet article including: a core including an electrical semi-conductor or an electrical conductor; and a continuous glass clad layer on at least four of six sides the core of the sheet article. Also disclosed is an apparatus for making a sheet laminate article as defined herein. Also disclosed is a method of making and using the article.

METHODS FOR MANUFACTURING GLASS ARTICLES
Methods of producing a glass article include melting a first glass composition and feeding a second glass composition into the melter. Both glass compositions include the same combination of components but at least one component has a concentration that is different in each. At least three glass articles may be drawn from the melter, including: a first glass article formed from the first glass composition; at least one intermediate glass article composed of neither the first nor the second glass composition; and a final glass article not composed of the first glass composition. The concentration of the at least one component in the intermediate glass article may be between the concentration in the first and second glass compositions. The first glass article and final glass article may have differing values for certain properties, and the intermediate glass article may have an intermediate set of values for the same properties.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING STRIP-SHAPED GLASS FILM
A position of a band-shaped glass film (1) conveyed downward in a vertical direction is detected by a detection unit (21), and the conveyance speed of each of a plurality of conveyance devices (10, 11, 12, and 14) provided in a horizontal conveyance path (R2) is controlled based on detection data in the detection unit (21). Under a condition that, of the plurality of conveyance devices (10, 11, 12, and 14), the conveyance device (10) located on a most upstream side is defined as an upstream side conveyance device, and the conveyance devices (11, 12, and 14) on a downstream side of the upstream side conveyance device (10) are defined as downstream side conveyance devices, an upper limit and a lower limit are set to the conveyance speed of each of the downstream side conveyance devices (11, 12, and 14).

GLASS FORMING DEVICES AND METHODS
Glass forming devices can comprise a first outer surface of a first wall, a second outer surface of a second wall, and a heater. Glass forming methods can comprise flowing a first stream of molten material over a first outer surface of the first wall and flowing a second stream of molten material over a second outer surface of the second wall. Methods can further comprise drawing a glass ribbon. Methods can also comprise heating the first wall with the heater to heat an inner portion of the first stream of molten material contacting the first outer surface of the first wall to maintain a viscosity of the inner portion of the first stream of molten material below the liquidus viscosity of the first stream of molten material.
Glass
An alkali-free glass of the present invention includes as a glass composition, in terms of mass %, 55% to 70% of SiO.sub.2, 15% to 25% of Al.sub.2O.sub.3, 0% to 5% of B.sub.2O.sub.3, 3% to 10% of MgO, 7% to 20% of SrO, and 0% to 5% of BaO, is substantially free of an alkali metal oxide, and has a strain point of more than 720° C.
MANUFACTURING METHOD FOR GLASS FILM WITH RESIN TAPE, AND MANUFACTURING METHOD FOR GLASS FILM
Provided is a method comprises: continuously forming an elongated, glass film having marginal portions from molten glass into a given shape having two marginal portions, in width-directional opposite edge regions thereof, wherein the glass film having marginal portions has the marginal portions, and an effective portion formed in a width-directional central region of the glass film having marginal portions; annealing the glass film having marginal portions; continuously forming resin tapes on the glass film having marginal portions at positions adjacent to and away by a given distance from the respective marginal portions, to extend in a length direction of the glass film having marginal portions; and continuously removing each of the marginal portions from the glass film having marginal portions, along a position between the marginal portion and a corresponding one of the resin tapes, or at a given width-directional position within the corresponding resin tape.
