Helmet padding system
Helmet padding systems are disclosed. One helmet padding system includes a rigid shell and a spacing pad. The rigid shell is configured to cover a top of a user's head and be worn under a piece of headgear. The rigid shell includes a pair of slots extending in a direction from a lower rear edge of the rigid shell toward a lower front edge of the rigid shell. The pair of slots define a central portion and opposed side portions of the rigid shell. The central portion includes at least one pair of flaps, with each of the at least one pair of flaps extending outwardly from the central portion into a respective slot. The central portion further includes a tail extending outwardly from the central portion into each of the slots. The spacing pad is positioned within the rigid shell. The spacing pad includes a layer of elastomeric material.
HEADBAND WITH PROTECTIVE INSERT
A headband with one or more protective inserts. The inserts may be strategically positioned to provide protection for specific areas of a person's head that are most vulnerable to impact, depending on the sport or other activity. The inserts may be directly attached to the headband, or may be enclosed in pouches which are directly attached to the headband. The headband may be worn with or without additional headgear, and may be configured to cooperate with the additional headgear as to form, fit, and functionality.

In one embodiment, the protective clothing device may be a protective hat. In another embodiment, the protective clothing device may be a headband.

A protective insert for a head covering which has a covering portion in the form of a half shell, having a plurality of coherent portions of a flexible, collapsible plastics material, which portions can be brought from a planar basic form into a use position that enables insertion into the covering portion, in which use position the protective insert has a half-shell form corresponding to the covering portion.

The device may include various padding materials that can reduce the risk of head injury for the wearer. One or more external covering layers can be connected to the padding or can surround and retain the padding. The protective sports headgear device may provide protection for the ears of the wearer as well. Additionally, the protective sports headgear device can be suitable for use in the sports of water polo, wrestling, or other sports.
