Method of manufacture of copper-doped glasses
A copper-doped glass formed by placing a target glass in a container, surrounding the target glass with a powder mixture comprised of SiO.sub.2 powder and Cu.sub.2S powder, wherein the SiO.sub.2 powder and the Cu.sub.2S powder are mixed according to the formula (SiO.sub.2).sub.(1-x)(Cu.sub.2S).sub.x, where 0.01<x<0.1, and heated to a temperature of between 800° C. and 1150° C. for a duration of between 1 and 10 hours.

A substrate for use in fluorescent-detection methods is provided. The substrate includes at least one glass substrate portion, the at least one glass substrate portion including: between about 60 mol % to about 80 mol % SiO.sub.2; between about 0 mol % to about 15 mol % Al.sub.2O.sub.3; between about 0 mol % to about 15 mol % B.sub.2O.sub.3; and about 2 mol % to about 50 mol % R.sub.xO, wherein R is any one or more of Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs and x is 2, or wherein R is any one or more of Zn, Mg, Ca, Sr or Ba and x is 1.
Substrates for use in fluorescent-detection methods having glass substrate portion
A substrate for use in fluorescent-detection methods is provided. The substrate includes at least one glass substrate portion, the at least one glass substrate portion including: between about 60 mol % to about 80 mol % SiO.sub.2; between about 0 mol % to about 15 mol % Al.sub.2O.sub.3; between about 0 mol % to about 15 mol % B.sub.2O.sub.3; and about 2 mol % to about 50 mol % R.sub.xO, wherein R is any one or more of Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs and x is 2, or wherein R is any one or more of Zn, Mg, Ca, Sr or Ba and x is 1.
Wavelength conversion member and production method therefor
Provided is a wavelength conversion member that can be readily adjusted in chromaticity and can be increased in productivity and a production method for the wavelength conversion member. A wavelength conversion member 1 having a first principal surface 1a and a second principal surface 1b opposed to each other includes a glass matrix 2 and phosphor particles 3 disposed in the glass matrix 2, wherein concentrations of the phosphor particles 3 in the first principal surface 1a and in the second principal surface 1b are higher than concentrations of the phosphor particles 3 in surface layer bottom planes 1c and 1d located 20 μm inward from the first principal surface 1a and 20 μm inward from the second principal surface 1b, respectively.
Wavelength conversion member and production method therefor

In particular, the present invention provides a system of forehearth frits, pearls, and/or concentrates that is capable of parting a fluorescent effect to a glass composition by adding a fluorescent glass fit, pearl or concentrate in the forehearth of a glass furnace, to form fluorescent glass and a method of using the fluorescent system of forehearth frits, pearls, and/or concentrates.

The fluorescent glass has a chemical formula shown as the following: aP.sub.2O.sub.5-bSiO.sub.2-cZnO-dCs.sub.2CO.sub.3-eNaCl-fCuCl, wherein a, b, c, d, e, and f in the formula represent the molar coefficients of compounds, wherein a is 45 to 65, b is 10 to 30, c is 1 to 5, d is 5 to 20, e is 5 to 20, f is 0.1 to 5. The fluorescent can achieve blue, orange and near-infrared photoluminescence under the UV light with higher fluorescent quantum yield.
