An ellipsometry system detects and/or identifies significant corrosion on glass, such as on soda-lime-silica based float glass. In certain example embodiments, there is provided a method and/or system using ellipsometry to detect and/or identify significant corrosion on soda-lime-silica based glass, so that such significantly corroded glass can be identified and not coated with a low-E coating and/or not used in applications where optical appearance is important. The ellipsometry system may be part of, or used in connection with, a sputtering apparatus/system for sputter-depositing low-E coatings on glass, so that whether to pass a piece of glass to the sputtering apparatus/system is based on whether significant corrosion is detected on the glass.

COLD-FORMED GLASS ARTICLE AND ASSEMBLY PROCESS THEREOF

Embodiments of an article comprising a cold-formed glass substrate in a curved shape, a plurality of separate mechanical retainers, and a frame are disclosed. The cold-formed glass substrate has a first major surface, and a second major surface opposing the first major surface. In one more embodiments, the plurality of separate mechanical retainers are attached to the second major surface of the cold-formed glass substrate. The mechanical retainers may be attached to the frame to define a position for each of the plurality of mechanical retainers, such that the mechanical retainers define the curved shape. Embodiments of processes to form such articles are also provided. Such processes can include attaching a plurality of separate mechanical retainers to a flexible glass substrate such that the glass substrate maintains its flexibility, and attaching the mechanical retainers to a frame, such that the mechanical retainers attached to the frame define a cold-formed curved shape for the flexible glass substrate.

Aqueous fluoropolymer glass coating

The invention relates to an aqueous fluoropolymer coating composition for direct application to glass without the need for pre-treatment of the glass surface. A thin-film optical device is formed on a substrate by atomic layer deposition. A mixing system provides a homogeneous gaseous mixture having a controllable ratio of first and second reactive gaseous materials. The first and second reactive gaseous materials each react with a third reactive gaseous material but do not react with each other. The homogeneous gaseous mixture is provided to a first inlet port, the third reactive gaseous material is provided to a second inlet port, and an inert gaseous material is provided to a third inlet port. The gas flows are directed through corresponding output channels of the delivery head toward the substrate. The mixing system is controlled to change the ratio of the first and second reactive gaseous materials as a function of time as the substrate is moved relative to the delivery head with an oscillating motion such that deposited layers have a varying composition.
