Plastomer-modified asphalt binders meeting MSCR specifications, asphalt paving materials with such asphalt binders, and methods for fabricating such asphalt binders

Plastomer-modified asphalt binders meeting MSCR specifications, asphalt paving materials with such asphalt binders, and methods for fabricating such asphalt binders are provided. The asphalt binder contains a base asphalt and a plastomer. If the plastomer has a drop point no greater than about 139 C., the asphalt binder further contains sulfur; sulfur-containing compounds, such as hydrocarbyl polysulfides and thiuram disulfides; phenolic resins; metal oxides; or a combination thereof. The asphalt binder is substantially free of elastomer.

Polythioaminal dispersions and coatings

Methods of forming and using a polymer dispersion are described herein. The polymer dispersion includes a plurality of polythioaminal microparticles in a fluid medium that does not dissolve the plurality of polythioaminal microparticles. The fluid medium may be aqueous, for example water. The polymer dispersion may be applied to a substrate, and the fluid medium removed, to form an article substantially made of a polymerized polythioaminal mass. The dispersion, and any article made from the dispersion, may include pigments and active ingredients, such as biocides.

UTILIZATION OF SULFUR POWDER IN CEMENTITIOUS MATERIALS

A cement composition utilizing powdered elemental sulfur may comprise a cementitious material; the powdered elemental sulfur, wherein the powdered elemental sulfur has an average particle size of less than or equal to 45 microns; at least one of a coarse aggregate or a fine aggregate; and an aqueous solution. A method of making a cement composition utilizing powdered elemental sulfur may comprise: mixing a cementitious material with the powdered elemental sulfur at less than 127 C. to form a dry mixture, the powdered elemental sulfur having an average particle size of less than or equal to 45 microns; combining the dry mixture with an aqueous solution at a temperature of less than 127 C. to form a wet mixture; and mixing at least one of a course aggregate or a fine aggregate with the dry mixture or the wet mixture at a temperature of less than 127 C.
