Vacuum pressure transformation vessel and method of use
A method of forming a ceramic-metal composite part is described herein. The method includes maintaining molten metal in an interior of a housing in a liquefied state, the interior including a first chamber, a second chamber, and a port defined therebetween. The method further includes sealing the port such that the molten metal in the first chamber is maintained at a first liquid level, suspending a part at a height within the first chamber above the first liquid level, forming a pressure differential between the first chamber and the second chamber, unsealing the port such that molten metal from the second chamber flows into the first chamber, and resealing the port when the molten metal in the first chamber reaches a second liquid level such that the ceramic part is submerged in the molten metal.

CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITE COMPONENT INCLUDING COOLING CHANNELS AND METHOD OF PRODUCING
A ceramic matrix composite (CMC) component and method of fabrication including one or more elongate functional features in the CMC component. The CMC component includes a plurality of longitudinally extending ceramic matrix composite plies in a stacked configuration. Each of the one or more elongate functional features includes an inlet in fluid communication with a source of a cooling fluid flow. The CMC component further includes one or more bores cutting through the plurality of longitudinally extending ceramic matrix composite plies from at least one of the one or more elongate functional features to an outlet proximate to an outer surface of the ceramic matrix composite to form a cooling channel. The component may optionally include one or more film cooling throughholes cutting through the plurality of longitudinally extending ceramic matrix composite plies from an inner surface of the ceramic matrix composite component to an outlet proximate to the outer surface of the ceramic matrix composite component.
REINFORCED CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITE AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURE
A method of making a ceramic matrix composite is disclosed. According to the method, a first preform comprising fibers is formed, and a second preform including a helical surface portion is inserted into the first preform. The first preform with the inserted second preform is infiltrated with a matrix material comprising a ceramic to form the ceramic matrix composite. A ceramic matrix composite is also disclosed. The ceramic matrix composite includes a first portion including a matrix comprising a ceramic, and a reinforcement including fibers derived from the first preform in the matrix. A second portion including a helical surface portion interface with the first portion is disposed within the first portion.
