Process and Apparatus for Manufacture of Portland Cement
20170050883 · 2017-02-23 · ·

A method of manufacture of Portland cement clinker is described in a dry process that captures the carbon dioxide emitted from the calcination of carbonate minerals, principally limestone. The process uses an indirectly heated, counter-flow reactor to pre-heat and calcine the cement meal to produce a separate calcined meal and carbon dioxide gas stream, with external heat being provided by the combustion of a secondary fuel stream with pre-heated air. This calcined meal is injected into the conventional rotary kiln, where the hot flue gas from combustion of the primary fuel with pre-heated air is used to fuse, react and sinter the powders to form granules of cement clinker. The clinker and carbon dioxide streams are cooled by the air pre-heaters.

SILICA SUPPLEMENTARY CEMENTITIOUS MATERIALS

Described herein are silica supplementary cementitious materials, composite cements and processes for their preparation. Also described herein are processes for preparing a composite cement comprising cement (e.g. Portland cement), a silica material (e.g. as an SCM), and optionally a carbonate material (e.g. as a filler), wherein said processes include the preparation of the silica material.

Treatment and disposal of wastewater from gas drilling by admixing with concrete produces a commercial product with a large market and involves no energy or generation of waste materials. The invention has unique cost saving opportunities to gas drilling operations but also to the concrete industry. Methods of treatment and wastewater disposal are claimed along with particular concrete products made using such wastewater additives.

POLYPHOSPHORIC ACID RESISTANT HYDROGEN SULFIDE SCAVENGER FOR USE IN ASPHALT APPLICATIONS

A method and composition for reducing hydrogen sulfide generated or emitted from an asphalt composition are disclosed. In certain aspects, a method for reducing hydrogen sulfide emissions from an asphalt composition is provided wherein an additive is mixed with the asphalt composition and the additive is a copper-based complex. The asphalt composition can include asphalt and an asphalt modifying acid. The copper-based complex can comprise copper carboxylate. The copper carboxylate can be an oil-soluble metal organic.

Basaltic lava for producing green controlled low strength material (CLSM)

Disclosed is a composition for a Controlled Low Strength Material (CLSM) including cementitious materials, water, and fine aggregate. The cementitious materials include powdered basaltic lava and Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). In the composition, the basaltic lava replaces some of the ordinary Portland cement in the CLSM as compared to a conventional CLSM. The basaltic lava replaces 25% to 90% of the OPC in a conventional CLSM. The CLSM can be used as a compacted fill for structural and non-structural construction applications.

Collection apparatus for collecting particulate matter generated in brake system of transport facility

The present invention relates to a collection apparatus for collecting particulate matter generated due to friction between a rotor and a brake pad in a brake system of a transport facility, the collection apparatus including a first collector configured to surround a portion of an outer side surface of the rotor, an upper collector configured to surround a portion of an outer peripheral surface of the rotor, and a second collector configured to surround a portion of an inner side surface of the rotor, wherein the first collector and the second collector are made of porous ceramic foam. According to the present invention, particulate matter generated due to friction between a rotor and a brake pad in a brake system of a transport facility can be efficiently collected, and by reducing the amount of particulate matter generated when braking a transport facility, air pollution can be prevented.

Containment of PFAS

REMOVING HEAVY METALS FROM OFF-GAS FOR CARBON CAPTURE

Carbon capture method for an industrial plant off-gas involves removing mercury and/or other heavy metals from the off-gas by contacting the off-gas with an at least partially hydrated cement paste as sorbent in a scrubber before a concentration step of the off-gas to concentrate CO.sub.2. The at least partially hydrated cement paste is simultaneously carbonated and loaded with the mercury and/or other heavy metals during contacting with the off-gas and is used as supplementary cementitious material in composite cement. The at least partially hydrated cement paste is used as sorbent in a scrubber before a concentration step of the off-gas to concentrate CO.sub.2.
