A shielding cup is provided for use with a self-fusing member or collapsible heat-concentrating accessory. The shielding cup is attached to a shoe heel as a temporary fix for a worn heel tip. The cup can be attached to the heel by a self-fusing member that binds to itself. The cup can also be attached by using a heat source and collapsible heat-concentrating accessory to concentrate heat on the heat-shrink version of the shielding cup. The cup can also be press fit on to the heel tip without the use of a self-fusing member or collapsible heat-concentrating accessory. Embodiments of the cup that can be press fit on to the heel tip include a rigid portion adjacent the base of the cup that engages the heel tip and a flexible portion extending away from the base of the cup. The flexible portion can be achieved by tapering the sidewalls of the cup along a longitudinal axis of the cup. Some embodiments of the cup that can be press fit on to the heel tip include a widened base having an outer periphery that is larger than an inner periphery.

A midsole protection device is provided. The device includes a closed loop elastomeric sidewall band. In a fully relaxed state, the sidewall approximates the outer shape of a sneaker and cooperates with the sneaker to substantially cover and protect its midsole while leaving the upper substantially exposed. The device grips the sneaker between an upper edge and a bottom flange. The upper edge and flange structures cooperate to retain the device in a fixed position on the sneaker. The midsole protection device may also include one or more iridescent colors, a camouflage or other pattern, or a logo such as a logo of a favorite sports team or a logo of a sneaker manufacturer.

The invention relates to an apparatus (10) for embedding a continuous elastic cord (11) along an edge of a continuous plastic sheet (12). The apparatus comprises an adhesive applicator device operable to apply an adhesive (16) along the edge of the plastic sheet, a folder device (18, 20, 34) operable to provide a folded edge of the plastic sheet (12) so that the adhesive is within the folded edge, and a feed device (24) having a tension device (30) operable to feed the elastic cord (11) in tension into the folded edge so that the elastic cord (11) is in contact with the adhesive of the edge. A bonding device (38) is operable to activate the adhesive of the folded edge to bond the elastic cord (11) in tension to the adhesive within the folded edge and to bond the folded edge to the plastic sheet (12). The invention also relates to a plastic sheet having an elastic cord at an edge thereof, a method for manufacture of said plastic sheet, and products or covers made from said plastic sheet such as oversleeves, overshoes, hair nets or bin liners etc.

A device for protecting footwear includes a base with length less than a length of the sole of the footwear to be protected and a width greater than a width of the sole. The base has a top surface for placement adjacent the sole of the footwear and a bottom surface for abutting against a foot-driven tool. A right sidewall extends upward from the right side of the base, and a left sidewall extends upward from the left side of the base. A strap is attached to the right sidewall and the left sidewall for looping around the footwear to hold the top surface of the base adjacent the sole of the footwear. In this way, a user can impact the foot-driven tool with the device instead of the sole of the footwear thereby protecting the sole against damage, and the sidewalls prevent the device laterally sliding off the sole.
