PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF MELONAL
A process for preparing 2,6-dimethyl-5-heptenal, comprising oxidizing citral of which more than 50% are present as geranial with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a catalyst comprising a Baeyer-Villiger oxidation catalyst, preferably a tin-containing molecular sieve.
Column for thermal treatment of a fluid
The present disclosure includes a column (1) having a cylindrical, vertical column body (2) forming a column cavity (3), and a mass transfer tray (4) disposed in the column cavity (3) and forming a collecting area (5). The column (1) is characterized by a circulation device (9) having at least one drain orifice (10) formed in the column body (2) above the collecting area (5), a circulation line (11) in fluid connection with the drain orifice (10) and at least one recycling orifice (14; 14-1 to 14-3) which is in fluid connection with the circulation line (11) and is formed in the column body (2) above the collecting area (5). Also disclosed herein is a thermal separating process in which a gas ascends within a column (1) of the present disclosure, and a liquid descends within the column (1), said gas and/or liquid containing (meth)acrylic monomers.

SIMPLIFIED ETHYLENE OXIDE PURIFICATION METHODS
The present invention provides simplified, efficient methods for refining a crude ethylene oxide (EO) containing mixture of water, EO, aldehydes and various gases comprising distilling the mixture in a dividing wall column having a receiving side and a product side and drawing each of a purified ethylene oxide stream and an isolated acetaldehyde stream from the product side of the dividing wall column, while minimizing the time during which a mixture containing more than 1 wt. % of each of ethylene oxide and water are in contact at a temperature above 80 C. to 2 minutes or less. No side draw is removed from the dividing wall column on its receiving side. The purification of the crude ethylene oxide needs no stripper or second absorber. The overhead and bottoms from the dividing wall column are recycled into the column or are reused in ethylene oxide production. The resulting purified EO stream may be more than 99.9% pure.

PROCESS FOR THE HYDROFORMYLATION OF DIISOBUTENE WITH PRECEDING DISTILLATION
A process is developed for the hydroformylation of diisobutene, in which the diisobutene stream used is subjected to a distillation prior to the hydroformylation in order to enrich 2,4,4-trimethylpent-1-ene in the stream to be hydroformylated. The hydroformylation is carried out with synthesis gas in the presence of a homogeneous catalyst system that comprises at least Co or Rh and optionally a phosphorus-containing ligand.
