Liquid phase oxidation of aromatic feedstocks with manganate recycling to produce carboxylic acids
Systems and methods for liquid-phase oxidation of an aromatic feedstock containing at least one oxidizable aromatic compound may incorporate an oxidation reactor, a separation apparatus in fluidic communication with the oxidation reactor, a solids treatment unit, and a product recovery unit in fluidic communication with the separation apparatus. The oxidation reactor may conduct liquid-phase oxidation of the oxidizable aromatic compound in the aromatic feedstock in the presence of a manganate salt to form a slurry containing liquid product and solid manganese dioxide. The separation apparatus may accept the slurry from the oxidation reactor and separate the liquid component from the solid component. The solids treatment unit accepts the solid component from the separation apparatus, treats the solid component with a basic liquid to oxidize the manganese dioxide in the solid component and form a regenerated manganate salt, which may be recycled back to the oxidation reactor.

FUNCTIONALIZED DIMETHOXYPHENOL MONOMERS AND POLYMERS PREPARED THEREFROM
Dimethoxyphenol-based monomers containing polymerizable functional groups such as [meth]acrylate groups are useful for the preparation of polymers, wherein one or more dimethoxyphenyl moieties are part of side chains pendant to the backbones of the polymers. The polymers thereby obtained may have different, improved properties, such as higher glass transition temperatures, thermal stability and solvent resistance, as compared to polymers based on other types of lignin-derived monomers.

The present invention is related to a catalytic process, which includes catalytic compositions for depolymerisation and deoxygenation of lignin contained in the biomass for obtaining aromatic hydrocarbons. The catalytic composition includes at least one non-noble element from Group VIIIB of the periodic table supported on a mesoporous matrix composed of an inorganic oxide, which can be alumina surface-modified with a second inorganic oxide with the object of inhibiting the interaction between the active component and the support. The process of lignin depolymerisation includes dissolving lignin in a mixture of protic liquids, reacting it in a reaction system by batch or in continuous flow at inert and/or reducing atmosphere, at a temperature of between 60 to 320 C. and a pressure of from 5 to 90 kg/cm.sup.2.

RECYCLED CONTENT DIMETHYL TEREPHTHALATE AND RELATED CHEMICAL COMPONENTS FROM WASTE PLASTIC
Processes and facilities for producing a recycled content organic chemical compound directly or indirectly from waste plastic. Processing schemes are described herein for converting waste plastic (or hydrocarbon having recycled content derived from waste plastic) into useful intermediate chemicals and final products. In some aspects, recycled content aromatics (r-aromatics) can be processed to provide recycled content paraxylene (r-paraxylene), which can then be used to provide recycled content dimethyl terephthalate (r-DMT). The r-DMT can then be used to form a variety of other chemical and end products, including recycled content cyclohexanedimethanol (r-CHDM) and various recycled content polymers, such as polyesters and aramid polymers.
