Catalytic conversion of lignocellulosic biomass into industrial biochemicals
This invention relates to a method for the conversion of lignocellulosic biomass into ethyl esters of carboxylic acids. Said method consists of treating the biomass material with an oxidizing agent that is incorporated in an solution comprising one or more acids, one or more alcohols and water, and subsequently performing a catalytic reaction at a higher temperature using the same acidic solution into which a larger volume of alcohol is added, in such a way that the catalytic conversion occurs in a medium with a much higher concentration of alcohol, i.e. with a much higher alcohol-to-water wt ratio. Such a method results in relatively high yields of ethyl esters, such as ethyl esters of formic, acetic, and levulinic acids, while producing a low yield of dialkyl ethers, which are unwanted by-products. The concentration of the oxidizing agent in the pre-treatment step is preferably higher than 6.0 wt %. The oxidizing agent is preferably a Fenton or Fenton-type reagent, and most preferably hydrogen peroxide activated by Fe (II), and/or Ti (IV) ions. The alcohol is preferably ethanol, and when ethanol is used, diethyl ether is formed as the unwanted dialkyl ether by-product. Preferably, the biomass material is pelleted before treatment.
EFFICIENT DEPOLYMERIZATION METHOD OF POLYMERS COMPRISING ESTER FUNCTIONAL GROUP, AND PURIFICATION METHOD THEREOF
The present disclosure relates to a depolymerization method of a polymer comprising an ester functional group with or without pigments or dyes, a composition for the depolymerization, and a purification method for selectively separating foreign substances from a monomer of the polymer, and is characterized in that a compound represented by formula 1 is added as an additive. The depolymerization method according to the present disclosure enables depolymerization at low temperatures and may increase the yield of a target product. In addition, the purification method according to the present disclosure may remove foreign substances including pigments or dyes from a monomer of the polymer to prepare high-purity monomers.

Solvent extraction of oil from distillers dried grains and methods of using extraction products
A process for extraction of crude oil from distillers dried grain solubles and/or distillers dried grains using a solvent extraction process and producing corn distillers meal that may be used as an animal feed supplement is disclosed. The corn distillers meal may be used as a crude protein supplement for use in a livestock feed diet, poultry feed diet, aquatic feed diet or the like. The solvent extracted crude oil may be suitable for other processes, including oleochemical processing for personal care and home care products, biodiesel production, and/or renewable diesel production from hydro-treating the extracted oil to make green diesel fuel.

Renewable alkene production engaging metathesis
Herein is provided a process for producing renewable products, such as alkenes, from a feedstock of biological origin. The process includes subjecting a feedstock including fatty acid glycerides and optionally free fatty acids, wherein at least one hydrocarbon chain is unsaturated, to esterification reaction in the presence of an alcohol. The ester stream thereby obtained is then fractionated and a fraction including esters of unsaturated C18 fatty acids is subjected to metathesis conditions in the presence of an alkene to obtain metathesis products. Fractionation of the metathesis products includes recovery of at least renewable 1-decene, and unsaturated C10-C15 fatty acid esters.
