Process for liquefaction of lignocellulosic biomass

Methods and systems are provided for improved liquefaction of a lignocellulosic biomass. The methods include reacting a lignocellulosic biomass slurry at mild conditions for a short period to produce a first reaction mixture having a reduced viscosity as compared to the lignocellulosic biomass slurry and that is substantially free of levulinic acid and hydroxymethylfurfural. The methods further include separating the first reaction mixture into a solid fraction and a liquid fraction, the solid fraction having a majority of lignin from the lignocellulosic biomass slurry and the liquid fraction having a majority of hemicellulose and greater than about 30% by weight of cellulose from the lignocellulosic biomass slurry. The method advantageously prevents or eliminates the formation of tar and/or char.

METHODS FOR EXTRACTING XYLOSE LIQUID AND CELLULOSE WITH HIGH PURITY FROM CORN STRAW

The embodiments of the present disclosure provide a method for extracting xylose liquid and cellulose with high purity from corn straw. The method includes raw material screening, raw material preprocessing, alkali processing, acid hydrolysis, and gradient alkali processing. The embodiments of the present disclosure adopt a gradient selective refining method for extracting a high-purity xylose liquid and cellulose from the corn straw, so as to maximize the extraction of the xylose from the corn straw, and at the same time, to separate and extract a high-purity cellulose product from straw residue under a low-cost process processing.

Enhanced Proppant Transport for Hydraulic Fracturing

A dry composition of dry polyacrylamide and dry guar; or a liquid suspension made from the dry composition for treating subterranean formations and methods for enhancing proppant transport in fracturing fluids using the composition.

METHOD FOR PRODUCING MODIFIED XYLOPOLYSACCHARIDE

Provided is a method for industrially mass-producing a modified xylopolysaccharide from biomass. The biomass used as a raw material includes xylan in plant cell walls, having at least one kind of substituents selected from acetyl, feruloyl arabinofuranosyl and coumaroyl arabinofuranosyl groups in the side chains of xylan. A passage controlling mechanism is internally arranged to generate plug-flow onto a slurry containing the biomass at a solid content in 10 mass % to 30 mass %. The hydrothermal treatment is performed under the controlled conditions: at a temperature of 160? C. or more, at a pressure equal to or higher than the saturated water vapor pressure at said temperature, and with a reaction severity R.sub.0 ranging from 3000 to 7000. A modified xylopolysaccharide is obtained as preserving the substituents in the side chains of xylan by performing a continuous hydrothermal treatment in a cylindrical plug-flow reactor.

PROCESS FOR PRODUCING A PULP

The invention relates to a process for producing a dissolving pulp from a cellulosic starting material using the kraft process, comprising the step of cooking the starting material with a cooking liquor. The process according to the invention characterized in that the starting material is exposed to a steam treatment prior to cooking and that the pulp obtained by cooking is subjected to cold caustic extraction (CCE) in the course of further processing.

COMPOSITION CONTAINING A LIGNOCELLULOSE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SAME

A composition containing a lignocellulose derivative contains at least one of the group consisting of a compound containing lignin and a compound containing hemicellulose. The composition may further contain a cellulose derivative in which some or all of hydroxyl groups in cellulose are etherified with an alkyl group having 2 or more carbons. A method for producing the composition includes subjecting a biomass as a raw material containing lignocellulose to an alkali treatment in a solvent; alkylating the lignocellulose by adding an alkylating agent to the alkali-treated biomass as a raw material; and fractionating the alkylated biomass as a raw material. The alkylating agent is an alkyl halide having 2 or more carbons.
