A crosslinkable copolymer is provided. The crosslinkable copolymer has pendant cationic nitrogen-containing groups with some, but not all, of these pendant groups further including a (meth)acryloyl group. The (meth)acryloyl groups can react to form a crosslinked copolymer that is ionically conductive. The crosslinked copolymer can be used to provide an anion exchange membrane that can be used in electrochemical cells such as fuel cells, electrolyzers, batteries, and electrodialysis cells.

COMPOSITION AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING WATER-REPELLENCY

The disclosure provides a water-repellent treatment composition including a functionalised copolymer of a monomer including a di-carboxylic acid anhydride group and a monomer selected from vinyl monomers. The vinyl monomer and optionally the monomer include a di-carboxylic acid anhydride group and form a polymer backbone. At least a portion of the di-carboxylic acid anhydride groups are functionalised by a graft pendant group including two or more fatty aliphatic groups linked to the polymer backbone via an ester, amide or imide of the dicarboxylic acid anhydride.

A process for producing a halogenated isoolefin copolymer involves contacting an unsaturated isoolefin copolymer cement, the cement containing an unsaturated isoolefin copolymer dissolved in an organic solvent, under halogenation conditions with a halogenating agent and an aqueous solution of an organic peracid oxidant to form a two-phase reaction medium having an organic phase and an aqueous phase, the organic peracid oxidant capable of converting hydrogen halide to free halogen. The process leads to higher halogen utilization even when the cement contains significant amounts of water and without the use of an emulsifier.
