Synthesis of antimicrobial silsesquioxane-silica hybrids

One-pot synthetic methods are disclosed for synthesizing curable, antimicrobial silsesquioxane-silica hybrids by hydrolytically co-condensing a tetraalkoxysilane with two different trialkoxysilanes. Particles are also disclosed that are substantially spherical and have an ordered lamellar internal structure. In addition, polymers prepared from the curable, antimicrobial silsesquioxane-silica hybrids and co-monomers are disclosed.

The disclosure relates to an organic-inorganic hybrid (OIH) polymeric composition and related methods for forming the same. The disclosure also relates to a polymeric composition as disclosed herein and related methods for forming the same. The OIH polymeric composition and the polymeric composition can be formed by UV-irradiating a corresponding composition including a Michael-addition (MA) acceptor compound, a Michael-addition (MA) donor compound, a silane compound, when present, and a photo-latent base initiator to form a corresponding base catalyst and catalyze the reactions forming the networked polymer. The OIH polymeric composition and the polymeric composition can be used as a coating on any of a variety of substrates or as an interlayer in an additive manufacturing process.

Gold@zinc salen-based metal organic framework composite and methods of use thereof

A metal organic framework composite is provided. The composite includes a plurality of zinc ions, each coordinated with a salen ligand to form a salen complex metal-organic framework; and gold nanoparticles dispersed on a surface and pores of the salen complex metal-organic framework. Antibodies may be immobilized on a surface of the gold nanoparticles to be used in highly sensitive diagnostic methods for detecting and quantifying protein biomarkers such as human chorionic gonadotropin hormone.

According to the inventive concept, the aerogel includes a first polymerization unit derived from a first monomer including an alkoxy silyl group; a second polymerization unit derived from a second monomer; and an inorganic aerogel which is chemically bonded to the first polymerization unit.

The present invention relates to a method of forming silica nanolayers on or within a biological sample, thereby capturing structural details that are present in the sample. The resultant silica composite or silica replica, in turn, can be employed as a template for a replica having those structural details captured in a polymer. Also provided herein are synthetic constructs including a polymeric replica, which can have any useful feature (e.g., oxygen-binding capacity).

A method for sanitizing contaminated water is claimed including exposing the contaminated water to the photodynamic composite, in the presence of light and oxygen, wherein, a sufficient quantity of singlet oxygen and super oxide anions is provided by the chemical reaction of the light and the photosensitizer to destroy the pollutants or pathogens present in the contaminated water and to oxidize organic contaminants into carbon dioxide and water; thereby rendering the water potable.

An organic-inorganic hybrid material is disclosure. The organic inorganic hybrid material contains 550 wt % of inorganic compounds and has a characteristic peak at 105050 cm.sup.1 in FTIR spectrum. Furthermore, the invention also provides a fabricating process of the organic-inorganic hybrid material as well as its starting material isocyanates. In particular, the isocyanates are prepared from carbonate containing compounds and amines.
