The present invention relates to a process for preparing a porous material, at least providing a mixture (I) comprising a composition (A) comprising components suitable to form an organic gel and a solvent (B), reacting the components in the composition (A) in the presence of the solvent (B) to form a gel, and drying of the gel obtained in step b), wherein the composition (A) comprises a catalyst system (CS) comprising a catalyst component (C1) selected from the group consisting of alkali metal and earth alkali metal, ammonium, ionic liquid salts of a saturated or unsaturated monocarboxylic acid and a carboxylic acid as catalyst component (C2). The invention further relates to the porous materials which can be obtained in this way and the use of the porous materials as thermal insulation material and in vacuum insulation panels, in particular in interior or exterior thermal insulation systems as well as in water tank or ice maker insulation systems.

METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A POLYURETHANE-MODIFIED FOAM, FOAM OBTAINED, AND USES

Disclosed is a method for manufacturing an isocyanurate polyurethane-modified foam, called PUIR, including: a) providing an oil or oil mixture at least 50% by weight of the fatty acids having a carbon chain of C18 or more, the fatty acids having an overall iodine number I.sub.iodine of at least 100 g of I.sub.2/100 g; b) epoxidating at least 50% of the double bonds in the oil to form the corresponding epoxides; and c) directly reacting, in situ, the epoxides that are obtained above with isocyanate or diisocyanate groups for obtaining corresponding oxazolidone derivatives, without passing through the intermediate formation of polyols obtained from epoxides, in the presence of at least one suitable catalyst and at least one expanding agent, so as to obtain the isocyanurate polyurethane-modified foam PUIR. Also disclosed are products, such as rigid insulation material, in particular as a material or panels of rigid insulation for roofing.

SPRAY FOAMS CONTAINING NON-HALOGENATED FIRE RETARDANTS

A spray foam formulation used to form a spray foam insulation layer in a wall structure is described. The formulation may include the reaction product of a polyisocyanate compound and a polyol compound; a fire retardant chosen from at least one of a non-halogenated fire retardant; and a reactive halogen-containing fire retardant, and a carbohydrate. The spray foam insulation layer has an insulative R value of 3.0 to 7.2 per inch, and a density of between about 0.3 to about 4.5 pcf. Further, spray foam insulation made from the spray foam formulation may have fire retardant characteristics that are equivalent to or better than a similar spray insulation foam insulation using non-reactive halogenated fire retardants such as tris(1-chloro-2-propyl)phosphate (TCPP).

The present invention provides trimerization catalyst compositions and methods to produce a polyisocyanurate/polyurethane foam using such trimerization catalyst compositions. The catalyst composition is the contact product of at least one ,-unsaturated carboxylate salt and at least one second carboxylate salt.

Blends, polyol premix compositions, methods of forming such compositions, foamable compositions using the premix compositions, methods of preparing foams containing the premix compositions, and foams made using the premix compositions are described. The polyol premix composition includes a polyester polyol; halogenated olefin blowing agent; and a distribution-enhancing component. In the polyol premix composition, the blowing agent, the polyester polyol, and the distribution-enhancing component form a substantially uniform composition.

POLYISOCYANATE COMPOSITION, METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME, COATING COMPOSITION, AQUEOUS COATING COMPOSITION, AND COATED SUBSTRATE

The present invention provides a polyisocyanate composition comprising a modified polyisocyanate obtained by a reaction between a polyisocyanate and a polyalkylene glycol alkyl ether having a specific structure. In the polyisocyanate composition, the average number of isocyanate functional groups is 1.8 or more and 4.0 or less, the moiety derived from the polyalkylene glycol alkyl ether in the modified polyisocyanate is contained in an amount of 10 mass % or more and 18 mass % or less based on the total amount of the polyisocyanate composition, and the polydispersity index of molecular weight distribution of the moiety derived from the polyalkylene glycol alkyl ether in the modified polyisocyanate is 1.05 or more and 2.00 or less.

Foams And Foamable Compositions Containing Halogenated Olefin Blowing Agents

The invention provides foam forming methods that comprise: (a) preparing a foamable system comprising at least one hydrohaloolefin; and (b) ensuring either (i) the substantial absence of long-term decomposition-inducing contact between said hydrofluoroolefin and an amine-containing catalyst; (ii) that an effective amount of surfactant is available in the system under conditions which prevent long term exposure of the surfactant to a long-term decomposition reaction environment; or (iii) a combination of (i) and (ii). Related methods, foamable systems and foams are also disclosed. Preferred embodiments provide polyurethane and polyisocyanurate foams and methods for the preparation thereof, including closed-celled, polyurethane and polyisocyanurate foams and methods for their preparation. The preferred foams are characterized by a fine uniform cell structure and little or no foam collapse. The foams are preferably produced with a polyol premix composition which comprises a combination of a hydrohaloolefin blowing agent, a polyol, a silicone surfactant, a catalyst and is further characterized by being substantially free of added water.
