A method of forming cured microparticles includes providing a poly(glycerol sebacate) resin in an uncured state. The method also includes forming the composition into a plurality of uncured microparticles and curing the uncured microparticles to form the plurality of cured microparticles. The uncured microparticles are free of a photo-induced crosslinker. A method of forming a scaffold includes providing microparticles including poly(glycerol sebacate) in a three-dimensional arrangement. The method also includes stimulating the microparticles in the three-dimensional arrangement to sinter the microparticles, thereby forming the scaffold having a plurality of pores. A scaffold is formed of a plurality of microparticles including a poly(glycerol sebacate) thermoset resin in a three-dimensional arrangement. The scaffold has a plurality of pores.

Process for producing articles formed from polylactic acid and articles made therefrom
PLA polymers that can be expanded into microporous articles having a node and fibril microstructure are provided. The fibrils contain PLA polymer chains oriented with the fibril axis. Additionally, the PLA polymers have an inherent viscosity greater than about 3.8 dL/g and a calculated molecular weight greater than about 150,000 g/mol. The PLA polymer article may be formed by bulk polymerization where the PLA bulk polymer is made into a preform that is subsequently expanded at temperatures above the glass transition temperature and below the melting point of the PLA polymer. In an alternate embodiment, a PLA polymer powder is lubricated, the lubricated polymer is subjected to pressure and compression to form a preform, and the preform is expanded to form a microporous article. Both the preform and the microporous article are formed at temperatures above the glass transition temperature and below the melting point of the PLA polymer.

Reaction mixtures, gel compositions that are a polymerized product of the reaction mixtures, shaped gel articles that are formed within a mold cavity and that retain the size and shape of the mold cavity upon removal from the mold cavity, and sintered articles prepared from the shaped gel articles are provided. The sintered article has a shape identical to the mold cavity (except in regions where the mold cavity was overfilled) and to the shaped articles but reduced in size proportional to the amount of isotropic shrinkage. Methods of forming the sintered articles also are provided.
