Methods for manufacturing articles of footwear are provided. In various aspects, the methods comprise utilizing additive manufacturing methods with foam particles. In some aspects, the disclosed methods comprise selectively depositing a binding material on foam particles in a target area such that the binding material coats at least a portion of defining surfaces of the foam particles with the binding material. The binding material is then cured to affix foam particles in the target area to one another. In various aspects, the disclosed methods can be used to manufacturer articles with sub-regions that differential levels of affixing between the foam particles, and thereby resulting in sub-regions with different properties such as density, resilience, and/or flexural modulus. This abstract is intended as a scanning tool for purposes of searching in the particular art and is not intended to be limiting of the present disclosure.

A method for producing molded foam articles that molds molded foam articles continuously, the method comprising continuously repeating the following step 1, step 2, step 3 and step 4 in this order; wherein step 1 comprises melting a resin composition that includes a liquid crystal polyester; step 2 comprises introducing, with an introduction device, a supercritical fluid that is unreactive, in a supercritical state, with the liquid crystal polyester, and is a gas at normal temperature and normal pressure, into the resin composition in an amount of at least 0.1 parts by mass but not more than 0.3 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the liquid crystal polyester, and then melt-kneading the resultant mixture; step 3 comprises injecting the melt-kneaded resin composition containing the supercritical fluid into a mold; and step 4 comprises conducting foaming by lowering at least one of the pressure and the temperature of the supercritical fluid contained in the resin composition to a value below the critical point of the supercritical fluid, thereby producing a molded foam article. This liquid crystal polyester has a melt tension at a temperature 20 C. higher than the flow start temperature of at least 5 mN but not more than 100 mN.

A thermoplastic elastomer foam is made by incorporating a gaseous or supercritical blowing agent under pressure into a molten thermoplastic elastomer comprising polymeric crystalline domains, then releasing the pressure to foam the thermoplastic elastomer.

Process for dyeing and foaming thermoplastic polyurethane

A process for the preparation of coloured and expanded thermoplastic polyurethane (coloured ETPU) material which comprises the following steps: a) providing thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) material and at least one gaseous fluid wherein the melting temperature of the TPU material is above the supercritical temperature of the at least one gaseous fluid b) placing the TPU material in an autoclave together with a colorant and/or a fluorescent whitening agent (FWA), wherein the colorant is selected from at least one of a disperse dye, an acid dye and a pigment; c) increasing the pressure in the autoclave by introducing the at least one gaseous fluid at a temperature below the melting point of the TPU material and at least above the supercritical temperature of the at least one gaseous fluid at the applied pressure (saturation step); and d) allowing the non-expanded TPU material to saturate; and e) decreasing the pressure in the autoclave down to ambient pressure at a temperature between the melting temperature and the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the TPU material at such a rate that the TPU material expands (expansion step) to obtain coloured ETPU material f) removing the coloured ETPU material from the autoclave.

EXPANDED POLYMER PELLETS

The invention refers to a method for producing expanded polymer pellets, which comprises the following steps: melting a polymer comprising a polyamide; adding at least one blowing agent; expanding the melt through at least one die for producing an expanded polymer; and pelletizing the expanded polymer. The invention further concerns polymer pellets produced with the method as well as their use, e.g. for the production of cushioning elements for sports apparel, such as for producing soles or parts of soles of sports shoes. A further aspect of the invention concerns a method for the manufacture of molded components, comprising loading pellets of an expanded polymer material into a mold, and connecting the pellets by providing heat energy, wherein the expanded polymer material of the pellets or beads comprises a chain extender. The molded components may be used in broad ranges of application.

MICROCELLULAR THERMOPLASTIC POLYURETHANE FOAMED SHEET WITH A HIGH FOAMING RATIO AND METHOD OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME

A microcellular thermoplastic polyurethane foamed sheet with a high foaming ratio includes components of: TPU with 70100 parts by weight, and polydimethylsiloxane with 030 parts by weight. The present disclosure has the following advantages: because the supercritical fluid has a relatively high solubility in the polydimethylsiloxane while the polydimethylsiloxane has a relatively low interfacial tension, mixing a small amount of polydimethylsiloxane into the TPU significantly facilitates the diffusion speed of the supercritical fluid in the TPU and shortens the diffusion equilibrium time of the supercritical fluid in the TPU. In addition, a method of manufacturing a microcellular thermoplastic polyurethane foamed sheet with a high foaming ratio is further provided.

Process for foaming thermoplastic elastomers

A foamed article is made by infusing the article of thermoplastic elastomer with a supercritical fluid, then removing the article from the supercritical fluid and either (i) immersing the article in a heated fluid or (ii) irradiating the article with infrared or microwave radiation.
