Polyurethane foams having a NFPA 101 Class B rating (ASTM E-84) which pass the FM 4450 Calorimeter Test are produced by reacting: (a) an organic polyisocyanate, (b) at least one polyether polyol or polyester polyol with a nominal hydroxyl functionality of at least 2.0, (c) a blowing agent composition and (d) at least one halogen-free flame retardant. The blowing agent composition includes: (1) no more than 10% by weight, based on total weight of the foam-forming composition, of one or more hydrocarbons having an LEL less than 2% by volume in air, and/or (2) a hydrocarbon having an LEL greater than 2% by volume in air, and (3) up to 1% by weight, based on total weight of foam-forming composition, of water.

Foamable waterborne dispersions which form stable flexible foams under ambient cure conditions are disclosed, said foamable waterborne dispersions comprising: a polyurethane polymer formed from one or more aliphatic or cycloaliphatic polyisocyanate and at least two different polymeric polyol components selected from polyether polyol, polyester polyol, and polycarbonate polyol; wherein the ambient cure conditions include a temperature of from 4 C. to 32 C., and a humidity of 0% relative humidity to 90% relative humidity. Also disclosed are the flexible foams produced from the foamable waterborne dispersions, as well as methods of providing a space filling layer or space filling volume adjacent to or on a surface, said methods comprising applying to said surface a foamed sample of the foamable waterborne dispersions, and allowing the foamed sample of foamable waterborne dispersion to dry under ambient conditions to yield a stable flexible foam.

Components for articles of footwear and athletic equipment are provided including a high energy return foam having improved abrasion resistance. A variety of foams and foam components and compositions for forming the foams are provided. In some aspects, the foams and components including the foams can have exceptionally high energy return while also having improved durability and softness and an improved abrasion resistance. In particular, midsoles including the foams are provided for use in an article of footwear. Methods of making the compositions and foams are provided, as well as methods of making an article of footwear including one of the foam components. In some aspects, the foams and foam components can be made by injection molding or injection molding followed by compression molding.

FUNCTIONALIZED PARTICULATE BICARBONATE AS BLOWING AGENT, FOAMABLE POLYMER COMPOSITION CONTAINING IT, AND ITS USE IN MANUFACTURING A THERMOPLASTIC FOAMED POLYMER

A chemical blowing agent for foaming a thermoplastic polymer, for example PVC plastisol or a polymer resin in an extrusion process, said chemical blowing agent comprising a functionalized particulate bicarbonate containing at least one additive, preferably excluding an exothermic blowing agent. The additive may be selected from the group consisting of rosin acids, any derivative thereof, and salts thereof; or any combinations thereof, such as comprising abietic acid, dihydroabietic acid, neoabietic acid, a rosin acid ester, or mixtures thereof. The particulate bicarbonate may be preferably functionalized by spray-coating, extrusion or co-grinding with at least one additive. The functionalized particulate bicarbonate may comprise 50 wt % to less than 100 wt % of the bicarbonate component, and 0.02-50 wt % of the additive. The functionalized particulate bicarbonate may further comprise 0.1-5 wt % silica. A foamable polymer composition comprising such chemical blowing agent. A process for manufacturing a foamed polymer, such as foamed PVC, comprising shaping and heating the foamable polymer composition, and a foamed polymer obtained by such process.

Expandable, blowing agent-containing pellets based on high temperature thermoplastics having a glass transition temperature according to ISO 11357-2-1999 of at least 180 C., wherein the expandable, blowing agent-containing pellets comprise at least one nucleating agent and have a poured density according to DIN ISO 697:1982 in the range from 400 to 900 kg/m.sup.3 and a mass in the range from 1 to 5 mg/pellet, processes for production thereof and foam particles obtainable therefrom having a glass transition temperature according to ISO 11357-2-1999 of at least 180 C., wherein the expanded foam particles comprise at least one nucleating agent and have a poured density according to DIN ISO 697:1982 in the range from 10 to 200 kg/m.sup.3, and particle foams obtainable therefrom and the use thereof for producing components for aviation.

Provided is a flame-retardant foamable styrene resin composition having a high flame retardancy and thermal stability, and recyclable, with a small amount of a bromine-containing flame retardant added. A flame-retardant foamable styrene resin composition, containing (A) a styrene resin, (B) a bromine-containing organic compound, (C) zinc oxide, and (D) a foaming agent, in which an amount of (C) the zinc oxide added is less than 2 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of (A) the styrene resin.

A polyurethane foam article comprises the reaction product of an isocyanate component and isocyanate-reactive composition in the presence of a blowing agent. The isocyanate component includes an isocyanate prepolymer comprising the reaction product of a first polyether polyol and a methylene diphenyl diisocyanate. The isocyanate-reactive composition comprises a second polyether polyol having secondary terminal hydroxyl groups and an amine-initiated catalytic polyether polyol having primary hydroxyl groups. A method of making the polyurethane foam article comprises the steps of reacting the first polyether polyol and methylene diphenyl diisocyanate to form the isocyanate prepolymer and reacting the isocyanate prepolymer with the isocyanate-reactive composition in the presence of the blowing agent to form the polyurethane foam article.
