Described herein is a Low TVOC flame-retardant polyurethane spray foam system, including at least one isocyanate as isocyanate component, and at least one substance reactive toward isocyanate, chain extender and/or crosslinking agent, flame retardant, blowing agent, catalysts, and additives and/or auxiliaries, as resin components, where the flame retardant includes expandable graphite and melamine, the amount of expandable graphite is in the range of from 5 wt % to less than 30 wt %, and the amount of melamine is in the range of from greater than 5 wt % to 30 wt %, each based on the total weight of the resin components. Also described herein are a polyurethane spray foam produced therefrom, the preparation thereof, and a method of use thereof in the application of heat insulation, sound insulation, cavity filling and damping packing.

The invention pertains generally to a process and a composition-of-matter for a shelf-stable open cell polyurethane HFO-blown two-component polyurethane foam composition having improved flame-retardant properties through the use of at least one organo-tin containing catalyst and at least one potassium containing catalyst; and at least one dimorpholino-based ether catalyst, a ratio of the at least one potassium-containing catalyst to the tin-containing catalyst being at least approximately 1.5:1.0, the at least one surfactant comprising a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) backbone and polyethylene oxide-co-propylene oxide (PEO-PPO) random copolymer grafts; and the added water comprises at least 8 weight percent of said B-side reactants, the polyurethane foam having a Class B rating with a flame spread between 25 and 75 inclusive and a smoke developed of under 450 using ASTM E 84 testing protocol.

An aerosol can configuration includes an outer can, an inner container and a spray head with a discharge element. The spray head has an outlet valve connected to the interior of the outer can and an outlet valve connected to the interior of the inner container. The two outlet valves are opened jointly by pressing on the spray head, so that the contents of the outer can and the contents of the inner container jointly enter the discharge element. To form a foam, the outer can contains at least 30-70% by weight isocyanate, in particular diphenylmethane 4,4′-diisocyanate, 3-15% by weight polyol with an OH number of less than 300, and 5-30% by weight liquid gas at a critical temperature of ≥+70° C. At least 5-30% by weight polyol with an OH number of more than 300, and 1-10% by weight liquid gas with a critical temperature of ≥+70° C. are contained in the inner container.
